Postoperative axillary lymphoscintigrams have been performed according to a technique of two-staged injection in 313 patients who had undergone a radical mastectomy with axillary dissection for breast cancer. Total absence of visualization of residual nodes suggests that dissection could be said to be complete in only 35.8% of the investigated patients, or because of metastatic disease causing blockage. Five clinically normal dogs and 5 dogs in which portacaval anomalies were diagnosed angiographically were utilized to evaluate differences in the appearance of the radiocolloid liver scan between the 2 groups. Hepatic injury has been associated with nicotinic acid treatment of schizophrenia and hypercholesterolemia. This association was implicated when the liver and biliary tract were not visualized after 99mTc-HIDA in a patient taking 3 g daily of nicotinic acid. Sonography is a safe and suitable diagnostic tool; to date it appears to be the most valuable method for detecting renal cystic lesions. In particular ultrasound examination, if a wider district is screened, can demonstrate the coexistence of the cystic disease in different organs. Three children with pyogenic arthritis of the sacroiliac joints are presented. A study of the literature shows that this condition, although not well known, is not uncommon in childhood. Clinical features and particularly physical examination of the sacroiliac joints are described. They should lead to suspect sacroiliac disease. Radioisotope bone scanning is of great help as it substantially reduces the delay in correct diagnosis. Antibiotic treatment is usually sufficient for adequate management of pyogenic sacroiliitis. The intravenous route for antibiotic administration is not mandatory.

Lymphoscintigraphy using technetium-99m atimony sulfur colloid was performed in 22 patients with melanoma referred to Duke University Comprehensive Cancer Center in an attempt to identify patterns of regional lymphatic drainage. Using combined Tc-99m sulfur colloid and In-113m chloride eluate imaging, studies from 32 patients with proven amebic liver abscess were analyzed. The results revealed good perfusion of the amebic lesion in three, poor perfusion in 11, and absent perfusion in 18. These results appear to depend on abscess size and age. Images with In-113m seem to be better than those with Tc-99m sulfur colloid in depicting amebic liver abscess during antiamebic therapy. Overall, the In-113m images provide more precise information concerning abscess size and shape.

During the first three days after trauma a pronounced hypotonia of muscles independent of the localization of the vertebral column was observed. Two patients of mathematical estimation of the clinoid form of the vertebra were proposed aimed at objectivization of the roentgenological information. Scanning was used to study liver regeneration in 84 patients operated on for echinococcus liver disease. The conclusion was reached that after an operation on the liver the shape of the liver was the most difficult to restore and easiest was its structure. The degree of restoration of the liver is closely connected with the age of the patient, the postoperative period, and the number of surgical interventions.

Labelling platelets with 111 Indium-oxine has advantages over the conventional 51 Chromium method: labelling is more efficient and the radiations emitted almost exclusively consist of gamma-rays. Owing to these advantages, autologous platelets can be used for kinetic studies in patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, even when thrombocytopenia is severe. 111 Indium labelling also provides accurate information on the sites of platelet destruction, which may help to predict the patient's response to splenectomy.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of a three-phase bone scan for early detection of HO formation and as a method of evaluating Didronel treatment. A marked vascular blush and blood pool was noted about the hips sometimes with a normal bone scan and normal X-ray of the hips. Amebic liver abscess was seen in 35 patients over a ten-year period at Cook County and the University of Illinois hospitals, Chicago; 32 had immigrated from an area of endemic amebiasis, but three were natives of Chicago. The effects of vitreous hemorrhages on anterior uveal vessels were studied. Albino rabbits were injected intravitreally with autogenous blood, plasma, RBCs, iron-dextrin, or Ringer's solution.
