BACKGROUND: Scapulopexy can effectively treat symptomatic scapulothoracic dyskinesis. In patients with preserved serratus anterior function, restoring scapular positioning without rib-based fixation may reduce surgical risks and rib osteolysis. This study introduces a modified technique-Serratus Anterior Plication and PEctoralis minor Release (SAPPER)-and reports its outcomes in patients with refractory scapular dyskinesis associated with neurologic symptoms.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients referred for treatment of symptomatic scapular dyskinesis were included if electromyography revealed lo

PURPOSE: Several surgical techniques have been used for shoulder fracture treatment. In 1989, Kapandji described the 'Palm Tree technique' for the first time, consisting of inserting three K-bent wires through a bone hole created under deltoid muscle insertion. The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical and radiographic results of proximal humerus fractures treated by a modified "palm tree technique."
METHODS: From August 2021 to March 2025, 43 patients with proximal humerus fractures underwent surgical treatment using the modified Palm Tree technique. The mean age was 61.8 years (ran

BACKGROUND: Lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve neuropathy (LABCN) is a known complication following distal biceps tendon repair; however, potential risk factors leading to this are not well described. This retrospective study of distal biceps repairs seeks to determine associations between patient demographics, surgical technique, and injury characteristics associated with postoperative LABCN.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review was performed on 275 patients with partial- or full-thickness biceps tendon ruptures who underwent operative repair. Patient characteristics were recorded includi

ACL re-injury rates are high in collegiate athletes, and double-leg squats have been used as a functional weight-bearing exercise to strengthen the lower extremities and assess bilateral kinetic asymmetries. The primary purpose was to quantify the correlations between medial-lateral shoulder/hip positions and lateral bending angles and bilateral asymmetries in vertical ground reaction forces (VGRF) and knee extension moments during double-leg squats in collegiate athletes at two assessments following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). BACKGROUND: Following surgery or injury of the lower limbs, the use of walking aids like crutches can cause high loads on the shoulder joint. These loads have been calculated so far with computer models but with strongly varying results.
METHODS: Shoulder joint forces and moments were measured during crutch-assisted walking with complete and partial unloading of the lower limbs. Using telemeterized implants in 6 subjects axillary crutches and forearm crutches were compared. A force direction was more in the direction of the long humeral axis, and slightly lower forces were assumed using axill

Arthritis does not escape the athlete. From the recreational athlete to the professional athlete, arthritis can be a common and perplexing problem. In the typical orthopedic sports medicine practice, it is no longer uncommon to see relatively young patients suffering from arthritis. It can affect the major joints such as the knee, hip, ankle, shoulder, and elbow. One of the most common problems is shoulder arthritis secondary to injury in recreational athletes. Athletes at risk for shoulder arthritis typically include overhead athletes and weight lifters. The clinical presentation is usually s

Brachial plexus injury causes severe arm weakness, forcing patients to rely on compensatory movements for daily activities. Most robotic solutions target isolated elbow or hand function, whereas multi-joint assistance remains limited. Here we show that a soft wearable exosuit providing shoulder and elbow assistance through pneumatic actuation and inertial sensing improves arm function in 14 adults with chronic traumatic brachial plexus injury, including six with complete lesions and ten after nerve transfer surgery. In single-session testing, the device increases active range of motion ( + 80-

BACKGROUND: People with disabilities face considerable obstacles when exercising, which precludes them from the social and health benefits of physical activity. Especially for individuals with paraplegia with spinal cord injuries, it is necessary to maintain continuous participation in physical activity even after discharge, as it helps to maintain mobility and daily living activities through upper body strength. However, the participation rate of people with disabilities in physical activity in Korea is still low, mainly due to the lack of exercise equipment and facilities.

BACKGROUND: Minimally displaced (<3 mm) and non-displaced fractures of the proximal humerus are a common source of disability; nevertheless, there is no agreement on the recommended rehabilitation program in these patients. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcome of this group of patients and describe the rehabilitation protocol we have used for the treatment of this injury.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the records of patients diagnosed with minimally displaced (<3 mm) fractures of the greater tuberosity who were admitted to our institute between June 2007 and May 2008.

BACKGROUND: Intra-articular corticosteroid injection in combination with rehabilitation is a prevalent treatment modality for moderate-to-severe shoulder stiffness. However, this approach frequently results in delayed and incomplete recovery. Conversely, arthroscopic capsular release is associated with inherent surgical risks. Manipulation under anaesthesia (MUA) presents a minimally invasive alternative; however, concerns regarding intravenous anaesthesia and iatrogenic rotator cuff injury have served to limit its adoption. This randomised controlled trial aimed to evaluate the hypothesis tha

BACKGROUND: Instability of the sternoclavicular (SC) joint is a rare but potentially devastating pathologic condition, particularly when it occurs in young or active patients, where it can lead to persistent pain and impairment of shoulder function. SC joint reconstruction using a hamstring tendon autograft is a commonly used treatment option, but midterm results are still lacking.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical outcomes, survivorship, and return-to-sports rate after SC joint reconstruction using a hamstring tendon autograft in patients suffering from

The diagnosis and treatment of proximal biceps tendon injuries continue to be a challenge. The difficulty lies on determining if there is isolated biceps pathology versus concomitant rotator cuff tears or instability. Imaging modalities, such as magnetic resonance imaging, continue to provide us with the extra tool to help us confirm our suspicion of additional pathology. Symptomatic biceps tendon tears can undergo debridement, tenotomy, or tenodesis if nonoperative measures fail to provide relief. Reports from performing a biceps tenotomy often give similar functional outcomes compared with t
