Multivariate base rates (MBR) of elevations are an emerging psychometric paradigm for enhanced interpretation of multiscale self-report data. The aims of this study were to calculate and compare MBR of scale/subscale elevations on the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) and determine the ability of MBR to differentiate between mood disorders (n = 524, k = 3), military-based posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD; n = 252, k = 2), and coached PTSD-simulator (n = 160, k = 1) groups. Overall, having at least one standard (T ≥ 70) and skyline elevation on clinical scales and clinical subscales was

BACKGROUND: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been associated with PTSD in military populations, but most studies assess ACEs retrospectively after trauma exposure, introducing potential recall bias. Few studies examine ACE-PTSD associations using pre-service assessments where temporal ordering is clear.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analyzed data from 288,633 Israeli Defense Forces conscripts who underwent pre-enlistment mental health evaluations between 2009 and 2019. Participants were systematically identified through universal mandatory screening, representing approxima

The aim of the study was to identify salient groupings of trauma survivors based on Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)-5 posttraumatic stress disorder symptomatology. Latent class analysis was used in 365 outpatient mental health trauma survivors. We identified six classes with two spectra-prominent avoidance and negative alterations in cognitions/mood (NACM)-and a resilient class (a plurality). Sexual assaults were more common among avoidance-prominent classes, and suicide attempts and tobacco problems were more common among NACM-prominent classes. Previous studies ha

Sleep disturbances, including insomnia and trauma-related nightmares (TRNs), are the core symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in military personnel. Furthermore these nocturnal manifestations are directly related to the persistence of daytime PTSD symptoms and are known to exacerbate comorbid conditions such as depression, suicidality, and daytime impairments. This prospective study examined the variability of PTSD-related sleep disruptions and its relationship to symptom severity using ecological recordings over several nights. One hundred thirty PTSD-diagnosed service members a

INTRODUCTION: History of trauma and PTSD are both common among individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) and associated with poorer SUD treatment retention and outcomes. Recommended trauma-informed care (TIC) approaches in SUD treatment have been underutilized in residential substance use treatment services.
METHODS: This study conducted a single-armed, phase 1 feasibility and outcomes trial for a novel TIC model developed and delivered in a young adult (18-35 years) residential substance use treatment service in Australia. Measures of client acceptability, staff acceptability, and treatm

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) share overlapping features for which similar cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) strategies can be employed. However, the comorbid presence of these conditions poses unique clinical considerations, and a nuanced approach to assessment, conceptualization, and treatment is needed when working with individuals with co-occurring OCD and PTSD. Treatment providers may not be aware of these nuances and may hold misconceptions about co-occurring OCD and PTSD, impacting their approach to assessment, conceptualization, and tre

INTRODUCTION: Global suicide rates highlight the critical need for effective preventive measures. Brief contact interventions (BCIs), such as France's Vigilans program, provide cost-effective prevention strategies. This study evaluates the suicide reattempt risk following BCIs in the aftermath of suicide attempt (SA) and identifies sociodemographic and clinical predictors to guide targeted prevention efforts.
METHOD: We conducted a prospective cohort analysis of 1044 non-first-time suicide attempters, enrolled in the Vigilans program between 2015 and 2020. The program offers diverse BCIs: a p

Background: As reported in this journal, Resick and colleagues (2023) investigated discrepancies between scores from two widely used PTSD measures: the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 (CAPS-5; Weathers et al., 2013) and the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5; Weathers et al., 2013), a clinician-rated structured interview and a self-rated questionnaire, respectively. Using data from four clinical trials of active-duty military personnel and veterans, the authors replicated the common finding that PCL-5 scores are higher than CAPS-5 scores. They then examined item response distributions

Recently, a patient was admitted to our department, who reported personality disorder symptoms and a cannabis use disorder. Additionally, a delusional disorder, aggression regulation issues and PTSD were classified. After employing CBT for substance use, the Hero Without Violence module and EMDR, the treatment was completed. Integrated treatment in this patient proved successful regarding the PTSD, aggression regulation problems and SUD. With the described case, the authors hope to provide a clear description of the possibilities of integrated treatment for a patient with complex problems.

COVID-19 pandemic is facing healthcare professionals with unprecedented challenges, which might alter their mental health. We targeted assessing depression, generalized anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) of Moroccan medical doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic; this would allow identifying the associated factors. A cross-sectional national study was carried out on 1267 exposed and unexposed public health medical doctors to COVID-19 patients. The study was conducted between May 15 and 15 June 2020. An anonymous self-administered questionnaire was completed online voluntarily and

OBJECTIVE: Brief interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT-B) has been shown to be effective in treating perinatal depression and in preventing depressive relapse among socioeconomically disadvantaged women. Yet, it is unclear how IPT-B alleviates depression. Previous research has suggested four possible change mechanisms derived from IPT's interpersonal model: decreasing interpersonal stress, facilitating emotional processing, improving interpersonal skills, and enhancing social support. This study explored how women who received IPT-B or enhanced maternity support services (MSS-Plus) evaluated their

BACKGROUND: Social support may be a protective factor for the mental health of public safety personnel (PSP), who are frequently exposed to potentially psychologically traumatic events and report substantial post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) symptoms. Research examining perceived social support and its association with PTSD and MDD in different PSP categories (e.g. firefighters, paramedics) is limited.
AIMS: To examine differences in perceived social support across PSP and determine whether perceived social support is associated with differences in rate

IMPORTANCE: No empirically supported treatments have been evaluated to address co-occurring substance use problems (SUP) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms among adolescents in an integrative fashion. This lack is partially owing to untested clinical lore suggesting that delivery of exposure-based PTSD treatments to youth with SUP might be iatrogenic.
OBJECTIVE: To determine whether an exposure-based, integrative intervention for adolescents with SUP and PTSD symptoms-risk reduction through family therapy (RRFT)-resulted in improved outcomes relative to a treatment-as-usual (TA
