A review of the clinical records of all patients with the diagnosis of abdominal tuberculosis, admitted to the Ethio-Swedish Children's Hospital (ESCH), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, over a ten year period was made. In this study, we have analyzed a series of 88 patients who underwent total gastrectomy followed by two different reconstructive procedures, Roux-en-Y jejunal interposition (57%) and interposition of a jejunal limb between the oesophagus and the duodenum (38%) (Henley procedure). We report our second case of chronic eosinophilic pneumonia (CEP) (Carrington's pneumonia) with elevated serum IgE values and present a review of the literature on this subject. In an attempt to clarify the nature of the "menopausal syndrome" a survey of symptoms was carried out by means of postal questionnaires in a population sample of 1120 women and 510 men. Special care was taken to avoid letting the participants know that the survey was mainly concerned with the menopause. Response rates were 72% for women and 68% for men.
