PURPOSE: To investigate the hypothesis that tumor-infiltrating macrophages contribute to prognosis of uveal melanoma and to study their association with tumor characteristics, especially microvessels.
METHODS: This was a retrospective, population-based cohort study of 167 consecutive patients who had had an eye with choroidal and ciliary body melanoma removed between 1972 and 1981. Macrophages were identified with mAb PG-M1 to the CD68 epitope, and their number and morphologic type were recorded. Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses of melanoma-specific survival were performed.

Over the past 15 years 140 patients with choroidal melanoma have been treated by local surgical resection of the tumour. The method appears worth considering for tumours up to 15 mm in diameter not involving more than one-third of the ciliary body. Sixty percent of patients retained useful vision and 25% good vision. PURPOSE: To describe a case series of presumed Sympathetic Ophthalmia (SO) triggered by diode laser cyclophotocoagulation (CPC) for the treatment of neovascular glaucoma.
METHODS: Patients developing bilateral granulomatous uveitis after CPC between 2014 and 2024. Cases with prior ocular trauma or penetrating ocular surgery were excluded. Treatment consisted of systemic steroids acutely and subsequently steroid-sparing drugs for long-term control.
