The author gives the results of treatment exclusively using physical agents (tele-cobalt therapy, radium therapy) in a series of 431 cases of epitheliomata of the cervix between 1959 and 1969. BACKGROUND: Curative treatment of malignant thymoma is resection; however, this may be precluded by invasion of vital organs.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Two patients with extensive intrathoracic spread of thymoma (Stages III and IV A) are presented. Treatment involved a combination of resection, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
RESULTS: One patient survived 9 years, 4 months, but eventually died of metastatic spread; the other one is well and without evidence of disease 30 months after treatment.

To evaluate the lifetime health effects of exposure to ionizing radiation during development, 1,680 beagles received whole-body exposures to 60Co gamma rays or sham exposures. Eight groups of 120 dogs each received mean doses of 15.6-17.5 or 80.8-88.3 cGy in early, mid- or late gestation, at 8, 28 or 55 days after breeding, or at 2 days after birth. Another group of 120 dogs received a mean dose of 82.6 cGy as 70-day-old juveniles and one group of 240 dogs received a mean dose of 81.2 cGy as 365-day-old young adults. Sham irradiations were given to 360 controls. Sexes were equally represented.

Kin17 is a mammalian nuclear protein sharing a slight sequence homology with the bacterial RecA protein. Kin17 has a zinc-finger motif and binds efficiently to curved DNA, a genomic topology associated with illegitimate recombination junctions. We investigated the relationship between the level of Kin17 protein and genomic alteration due to either impaired wild-type p53 functions or exposure to gamma rays. We used BP cells, a rodent epithelial cell system. The cell lines used were syngeneic and harbored wild-type or mutant p53 alleles and exhibited different sensitivities to gamma irradiation.

PURPOSE: To report the results of plaque radiotherapy of ciliary body and choroidal melanoma with extraocular extension.
METHODS: This retrospective study of 17 eyes of 17 patients with ciliary body and choroidal melanoma demonstrated extraocular extension that was clinically evident but less than 3 mm in thickness. In 14 eyes, the extraocular extension was located anteriorly and in three posteriorly. Samples of bovine serum from uninfected and African trypanosomes-infected animals were tested before and after gamma-irradiation, using three sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). In this work, we have synthesized a few novel mononuclear complexes of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) using a pyrazolone-derived Schiff base ligand. They were characterized by spectroscopic and analytical methods. The elemental analyses, UV-Vis, magnetic moment values and molar conductance of the complexes reveal that the complexes adopt an octahedral arrangement around the central metal ions. The interaction of complexes with CT-DNA was studied by absorption spectral titration and viscosity measurements. The observed data show that the complexes bind with CT-DNA via an intercalation mode.
