Monocytes Expressing IL-36G Play a Crucial Role in Atopic Dermatitis.

Atopic dermatitis (ad) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease, with recent studies indicating that immune cells, such as monocytes and inflammatory cytokines, play a crucial role. By retrieving datasets from public databases and analysing immune cell infiltration in lesional skin using CIBERSORT, we found that monocytes and M2 macrophages were significantly upregulated in atopic dermatitis. Differentially expressed gene (DEG) functional enrichment analysis revealed that cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction was the most significantly enriched pathway. Further analysis of cytokines and their r…

Topical Application of Fluoxetine Improves DNCB-Induced Atopic Dermatitis in Mice.

This study aimed to assess the therapeutic effects and underlying mechanisms of topical fluoxetine application in an atopic dermatitis (AD)-like mouse model. An AD-like mouse model was established using 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) and treated with topical applications of fluoxetine on skin lesions. The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated by measuring the number of scratches, skin thickness, trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL), and skin moisture levels. Histopathological changes were examined through haematoxylin and eosin staining and toluidine blue staining to assess the local inflammatory s…

A Retrospective Study of Pediatric Allergic Contact Dermatitis from 2017-2022.

OBJECTIVES: Allergic contact dermatitis occurs frequently in children. The proportion of children of color in the US is increasing, and racial and ethnic minority representation is important in pediatric allergic contact dermatitis research. The objectives of our study were to identify differences in age, sex, race and ethnicity among pediatric patch tests obtained from 2017 to 2022. METHODS: A total of 792 pediatric patients were evaluated, and patch test differences were analyzed among age, sex, race and ethnicity groups. RESULTS: Children in the age group 0-5 years had the highest number …

Mask-Induced Dermatitis Progressing to Chronic Seborrheic Inflammation: A Case Report.

Prolonged mask use during the COVID-19 pandemic has been associated with an increase in dermatologic conditions, particularly irritant and allergic contact dermatitis. Mechanical friction, occlusion, and humidity contribute to skin barrier disruption and inflammation. Although most cases are self-limiting, a subset may evolve into chronic or steroid-dependent dermatoses. We report a case of a 23-year-old male healthcare professional who developed erythematous plaques behind the ear following continuous mask use. The lesions initially responded to topical betamethasone 0.05% cream but relapsed …

Secondary hyperaldosteronism associated with severe infantile atopic dermatitis: a case series.

Recent literature has highlighted an association between severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in infancy and biochemical disturbances consistent with secondary hyperaldosteronism. Transepidermal sodium loss driving volume depletion has been hypothesized to contribute to this process, but direct evidence of the underlying mechanisms remains sparse. We present a case series of 3 children, aged 3 to 7 months, who were admitted with severe exudative eczema associated with hyponatremia and hyperkalemia, despite evidence of effective renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system activation and renal mineralocortico…

Demodex Mite Infestation in Patients Suffering from Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis.

The role of Demodex mites in the pathogenesis of skin diseases still needs updating. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between Demodex sp. infestation and ocular and skin lesions in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and psoriasis (PsO). The control group comprised subjects that had not been diagnosed with any inflammatory skin disease. Direct microscopic examination (DME) was applied to analyze eyelashes and skin scraping samples. Demodex mites were detected more often in the eyelash samples than in the skin in both the AD (16.7% vs. 6.7%) and PsO (18.5% vs. 7.4%) patie…

Do Psoriasis and Atopic Dermatitis Affect Memory, Attention, Stress and Emotions?

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis and atopic dermatitis are chronic skin diseases found all over the world that cause a lot of suffering to patients. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to answer the following questions: whether people suffering from psoriasis and AD have greater problems with recognizing emotions, the effectiveness of attention and memory processes, and whether they use different strategies of coping with stress than healthy people. METHODS: This study involved 90 patients, including 30 patients with psoriasis, 30 patients with AD and 30 healthy patients, aged 21 to 63 years, includi…

Functions of Langerhans cells in diisononyl phthalate-aggravated allergic contact dermatitis.

Diisononyl phthalate (DINP), a widely-used plasticizer, is associated with the development of allergic diseases including allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Langerhans cells (LCs) are reported to be involved in the sensitization phase of ACD. However, the effect of skin DINP exposure on ACD in C57BL/6 mice and the functions of LCs remain unclear. Our results showed that DINP aggravated ACD in C57BL/6 mice, which was paralleled by ear thickening, mast cell degranulation, expressions of immunological cytokines, including IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, IL-17, IL-6, IL-1β, transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 …

Calycosin enhances Treg differentiation for alleviating skin inflammation in atopic dermatitis.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent chronic inflammatory skin disorder that poses a significant global health challenge. There is a lack of safe and effective medications to treat AD. Astragalus membranaceous is a traditional Chinese medicine widely used in clinical treatment of skin diseases. Calycosin (CA), derived from the root of Astragalus membranaceous, exhibits dual attributes of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, suggesting its promise for addressing cutaneous inflammation. Nonetheless, the precise mechanisms underlying CA's therapeutic acti…

Psoriasiform Dermatitis Following Kawasaki Disease: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is an idiopathic acute inflammatory illness that commonly affects children in Northeast Asian countries. In this case report, a psoriasiform eruption appeared on the face and extremities following the onset of KD. A review of previous reports identified 38 cases of psoriasiform eruptions following KD, typically appearing 4 days to 2 months after the onset of KD, unlike other skin manifestations associated with the disease. Notably, in this case, the rash improved with the application of white petrolatum, suggesting that psoriasiform eruptions following KD may be self-limi
