Serum anti-platelet activity in 44 patients with acute leukemia (AL), 19 patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and 30 healthy controls was studied by using the platelet factor 3 availability test (PF-3) and the inhibition test of clot retraction. Shortening of the clotting time in PF-3 test performed with isologous platelets was found in 30 of 44 cases as a result of accelerating the intrinsic coagulation pathway. Twenty-seven patients with Amobebic Liver Abscess were observed during the last two years and were analysed retrospectively with respect to diagnostic procedures and therapeutic strategies. Cytotoxic chemotherapy is the mainstay of cancer treatment. Conventional chemotherapeutic agents do not distinguish between normal and neoplastic cells. This leads to severe toxic side effects, which may necessitate the discontinuation of treatment in some patients. Recent research has identified key molecular events in the initiation and progression of cancer, promoting the design of targeted therapies to selectively kill tumor cells while sparing normal cells. Although, the side effects of such drugs are typically milder than conventional chemotherapies, some off-target effects still occur.

We investigated the bacterial contamination of commonly used intravenous anaesthetic agents. Ten trainee anaesthetists drew up four syringes each of propofol, midazolam, thiopentone, 0.9% saline and a culture medium control using their normal practice. Episodic total unresponsiveness to single doses of L-dopa developed in 14 of 32 parkinsonians with declining efficacy and response fluctuations after chronic L-dopa therapy. Complete lack of clinical benefit after occasional doses was unpredictable, occurred at least once daily mostly in the afternoon, and differed from other response failures related to food intake. In two patients, total unresponsiveness after dose ingestion coincided with lack of increases in plasma L-dopa levels suggesting that phenomenon was due, in part, to failure of L-dopa absorption from the gut.
