[Emerging Therapeutic Strategies for Central Nervous System Regeneration].

Reperfusion therapy has markedly improved outcomes after acute ischemic stroke; however, many patients remain ineligible for treatment or sustain irreversible brain injury despite successful recanalization. Regenerative medicine therefore represents an important strategy for restoring damaged neural tissue and promoting functional recovery. Stem cell therapies may exert therapeutic effects through multiple mechanisms, including cell replacement, secretion of neurotrophic factors, modulation of inflammation and immune responses, angiogenesis, and intercellular transfer of mitochondria and other

Emerging Therapeutic Protein Targets of Inflammation: A Comprehensive Review.

Conventional anti-inflammatory therapies, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids, remain the mainstay of treatment for inflammatory disorders. However, their long-term use is often limited by adverse effects, insufficient target specificity, and an inability to achieve sustained resolution of chronic inflammation. Advances in the understanding of inflammatory signalling pathways have led to the identification of several promising protein targets for the treatment of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. This review provides a comprehensive overview

Emergent Andreev Reflection from a Lattice Duality Defect.

Andreev reflection converts an incoming fermion into an outgoing hole and is usually tied to a superconducting interface. We show that an analogous charge-conjugating boundary condition emerges from a purely lattice duality defect. Starting from a Majorana representation of the transverse-field Ising chain, we construct a folded lattice model in which a boundary Majorana impurity implements a one-site translation of a staggered Majorana chain. In the continuum, this translation becomes a chiral fermion-parity defect: it flips the sign of the only left-moving Majorana mode while leaving the rig

Emergence of Multiple Polaritonic States of Water-in-Salt in Cavity.

Water-in-salt electrolytes exhibit multiple spectroscopically isolated OH stretching modes owing to spatially and temporally isolated water species. Here we show that these modes couple cooperatively to a Fabry-Perot cavity, yielding well-resolved collective polaritonic states. These characteristics provide an insight to distinguishing the light-matter modes of water which have remained unresolved due to the common assumption of homogeneous broadening. This demonstrates that vibrational polariton formation in aqueous media is dictated by the vibrational heterogeneity that remains spectroscopic

Mitochondrial Transplantation: An Emerging Therapeutic Option for Cardiovascular Disease.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) continue to impose the greatest global burden of death, and mitochondrial injury is increasingly recognized as a key pathological driver across ischemic heart disease, cardiac arrest, and heart failure. In this context, mitochondrial transplantation (MT) has gained attention as a promising therapeutic approach that directly addresses bioenergetic deficits by delivering functional mitochondria to compromised myocardium. This review examines current evidence for MT in CVD and evaluates its translational potential. We comprehensively reviewed preclinical studies and

Targeting calciphylaxis: the emergence of vitamin K as a potential treatment.

Calciphylaxis, or calcific uraemic arteriolopathy, is a rare, life-threatening vascular disorder predominantly affecting patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially those on dialysis. It is characterized by arteriolar calcification, thrombosis, and painful ischemic skin lesions that frequently ulcerate, contributing to high morbidity and mortality. Calciphylaxis arises from medial arterial calcification, endothelial injury, and a pro-inflammatory, pro-thrombotic milieu. Disruption of vitamin K-dependent pathways, particularly impaired γ-carboxylation of matrix Gla protein (

Emergent critical oscillations in motor cortex of Parkinson's patients.

The dynamical state of cortical neural activity constrains the complexity of functions it can perform. A marginally stable dynamical state - called criticality - is thought to be beneficial for brain functions that require multiple time scales, broad dynamic range, and large information storage and transmission. A growing body of evidence suggests that criticality is a feature of healthy brain dynamics, but breaks down in certain brain disorders. Here we ask whether Parkinson's disease incurs deviation from criticality compared to healthy controls. We analyze human resting state EEG activity i

Distinguishing the endotypes of Chronic rhinosinusitis: the emerging roles of macrophages.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a heterogeneous inflammatory disorder characterized by different endotypes classically known as type 1/2/3 inflammation. Macrophages play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of CRS. Under diverse inflammatory conditions, macrophages can polarize into different subsets and exert distinct functions across CRS endotypes. Recently, single-cell transcriptome analysis identified a series of macrophage subsets that have specific gene expression signatures associated with CRS endotypes. AREAS COVERED: A literature search was conducted using PubMed with key

Emerging Paradigms in Strigolactone Biosynthesis, Signaling, and Evolutionary Dynamics.

Originally identified as root-derived exudates that trigger the germination of parasitic weed seeds, strigolactones (SLs) were later discovered to be crucial facilitators of plant symbiotic associations with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and then found to be a bona fide plant hormone class in 2008. Thereafter, SLs have been revealed as versatile regulators of plant development, regulating processes as diverse as shoot branching, root architecture, leaf senescence, vasculature formation, and stem secondary growth. Beyond these developmental roles, they function as signaling molecules, enabling p

Delayed Drug Hypersensitivity: Mechanistic Advances and Emerging Therapies.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Delayed drug hypersensitivity reactions span mild cutaneous eruptions, severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs), and internal-organ injury. We review how pharmacogenomic, single-cell, and spatial methods have shown that these syndromes are driven by shared effector mechanisms, and how identifying which one predominates opens the way to targeted treatment. RECENT FINDINGS: HLA associations are necessary but not sufficient to explain who reacts. Susceptibility is increasingly attributed to a pre-existing, often virus-shaped T-cell repertoire and to where tissue-resident mem

Cooperation beyond the dyad: the emergence and stability of animal societies.

Cooperation is a fundamental driver of social evolution, yet we still lack an integrated framework explaining how interactions among individuals scale up to the formation and long-term stability of animal societies. Although major advances have been made, research has often focused on a narrow set of model taxa and on individual mechanisms in isolation, hindering a comparative understanding across species and theoretical approaches. In this review, we synthesise theoretical and empirical work to link the processes that initiate group living with those that sustain cooperation once groups are e

Early emergence of contractility and mechanotransduction during human megakaryopoiesis.

The ability to contract blood clots is a hallmark of functional platelets. Proteins that support agonist-induced platelet contraction are expressed in megakaryocytes (MKs) and transferred to platelets during thrombopoiesis. Here, we investigated when during MK development the functional machinery for contraction emerges. Human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) were differentiated into embryonic hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) and further matured into MKs (iMKs) to map the emergence of contractility and mechanotransduction across differentiation. Expression of total (CD41) and activa

Giant ectopic splenic volvulus: a rare surgical emergency.

BACKGROUND: Splenic volvulus is a rare condition most often associated with a wandering spleen (WS) due to congenital or acquired ligamentous laxity. A giant ectopic splenic volvulus in adults without identifiable risk factors is exceptionally rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 46-year-old woman with no significant past medical history who presented with acute abdominal pain. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a giant ectopic spleen measuring approximately 20 cm, with torsion of the splenic pedicle, consistent with splenic volvulus. Emergency surgery was performed. Intraoperative

Emerging chemical strategies for modulating protein O-GlcNAcylation.

O-linked β-N-acetylglucosamine modification (O-GlcNAcylation) is an essential and dynamic post-translational modification (PTM) that modulates diverse cellular processes. Dysregulation of O-GlcNAcylation is associated with numerous human diseases, yet no O-GlcNAc-targeting therapy has been approved for clinical use, underscoring the need for tools that enable precise functional dissection of this modification. In this review, we survey emerging chemical strategies over the past two years that extend beyond conventional active-site inhibition, covering both chemically induced proximity (CIP) pl

Molecular bioindicators for assessing environmental impacts of emerging contaminants.

Emerging contaminants (ECs) exert subtle yet persistent pressures on environmental systems, often escaping detection by traditional chemical or ecological monitoring. Molecular bioindicators, i.e., genes, enzymes, or pathways whose presence, abundance, or expression reflects contaminant exposure or biological stress, offer a mechanistic basis to trace pollutant fate and functional disruption. These include degradation and transformation genes reflecting detoxification potential, resistance and adaptation genes such as antimicrobial resistance determinants, and toxicity-response genes indicatin
