Preconception knowledge, beliefs and behaviours among people of reproductive age: A systematic review of qualitative studies.

BACKGROUND: The health of parents before pregnancy influences the short- and long-term health of their offspring. Perceived barriers to Palestinian pregnant women's acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination using the Health Believe Model: a cross-sectional study.

This study aims to explore pregnant women's attitudes to COVID-19 vaccination and determinants of vaccine acceptance. We conducted a cross-sectional study among pregnant women attending PHC clinics and hospitals in the West-bank of Palestine. We used an interviewer-administered questionnaire based on Health Belief Model. The study's primary outcome was COVID-19 vaccination acceptance. We used the Chi-square test to compare those who accepted the vaccine versus those who refused it and conducted binary logistic regression to explore independent determinants of vaccination acceptance. Among the

Brief Report: "What Is This PrEP?"-Sources and Accuracy of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Awareness Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women Attending Family Planning and Maternal Child Health Clinics in Western Kenya.

BACKGROUND: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) delivery to adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) is scaling up in sub-Saharan African countries. Understanding how AGYW learn about PrEP is needed to inform programs seeking to reach AGYW with HIV prevention tools. METHODS: AGYW (ages 15-24), attending routine family planning and maternal child health clinics in Kisumu, Kenya, participated in in-depth interviews. AGYW were recruited if they either declined or accepted PrEP when offered that day in clinic or were currently or previously on PrEP. Thematic analysis was used to identify key themes re

Awareness and Willingness to Use Biomedical Prevention Strategies for HIV Among Sexual and Gender Minority Youth: Results From a National Survey.

PURPOSE: Sexual and gender minority youth (SGM), an umbrella term encompassing gay, bisexual, and transgender youth, experience disproportionately high rates of new HIV infections, and recent advances in biomedical HIV prevention modalities hold promise in reducing new infections. However, the extent to which SGM youth are aware of and willing to use these modalities is unknown. METHODS: Using data from the Survey of Today's Adolescents Relationships and Transitions, we analyze awareness of and willingness to take HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), nonoccupational HIV post-exposure prophyla

Provider-Patient Communication on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (Prep) for HIV Prevention: An Exploration of Healthcare Provider Challenges.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a once-daily pill prescribed by healthcare providers to protect patients from contracting HIV. Current data suggests that a minority of healthcare providers have ever prescribed it to clinically-eligible patients. The present study employed a social ecological framework to understand the factors that influence providers' engagement in patient-centered communication regarding PrEP. Semi-structured interviews (N = 20) with physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners working in primary and specialty care practices in Western New York were thematica

Child handwashing in an internally displaced persons camp in Northern Iraq: A qualitative multi-method exploration of motivational drivers and other handwashing determinants.

BACKGROUND: Children in humanitarian situations are particularly vulnerable to diseases such as diarrhoea. Handwashing with soap can greatly reduce transmission but handwashing rates are often low and traditional interventions ineffective. To aid future intervention design, this study aims to understand the determinants of child handwashing and the key motivational drivers of children's behaviour within a specific humanitarian setting. METHODS: In an internally displaced persons camp in Northern Iraq we conducted a series of 36 friendship-paired interviews with children aged 7-12 years, six s

Women's Cancer Care in Iran.

Breast cancer (BC) and cervical cancer (CC) are the first and fifth common cancers in Iranian women. Although age-standardized incidence rate of BC and CC in Iran is low, the mortality to incidence ratio is high due to late diagnosis. Except an old and a quite comprehensive cancer registry, women's cancer care encounter many challenges in Iran. Lack of a customized national and inclusive protocol to control cancer care along with the fragmented health system is the first and foremost cancer care challenge. Many high-risk women miss the opportunity of early diagnosis and treatment because of po

Latent Tuberculosis Infection Beliefs and Testing and Treatment Health Behaviors Amongst Non-US-Born South Asians in New Jersey: A Cross-Sectional Community Survey.

Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) remains a problem in the United States as reactivation leads to active TB disease particularly in persons with risk factors. The objective of this study is to assess the knowledge, attitudes and health behaviors related to testing and treatment of LTBI among non-US-born South Asians (SA) in New Jersey (NJ). A cross-sectional, community-based survey was the primary tool for gathering data. Eligibility criteria included being at least 18 years of age, self-identifying as SA, verbal consent for participation, and birth in a high TB endemic country. A hardcopy

The purpose of this research study was to determine sodium knowledge, beliefs and behaviors in patients on chronic HEMO. METHODS: A descriptive correlational study was conducted using an investigator developed online sodium knowledge, beliefs, and behaviors survey. Participants were recruited via nephrology social media websites. FINDINGS: One hundred an

Reasons for Tobacco Use and Perceived Tobacco-Related Health Risks in an Inpatient Psychiatric Population.

People with mental illness (MI) have a disproportionate tobacco-related disease burden and mortality. Tobacco-use rates in people with MI are nearly twice that of the general population. Reasons for tobacco-use in this population may be a result of diminished tobacco-related disease risk perceptions. The purpose of this study was to examine the reasons for tobacco-use and perceived tobacco-related health risks among psychiatric inpatients. A correlational design was employed to survey a convenient sample of 137 patients from a psychiatric facility in central Kentucky. Information obtained from

I wish I had known sooner: stratified reproduction as a consequence of disparities in infertility awareness, diagnosis, and management.

Infertility affects one in eight couples in the US, yet many couples report feeling blindsided by the diagnosis. Lack of awareness about infertility can lead to missed opportunities for prevention, delays in diagnosis, and greater emotional distress when a diagnosis is made. This paper reports on the results of interviews with 54 American women experiencing infertility, conducted via phone between 2013 and 2015 with participants from across the country. The interviews explored whether differences in infertility awareness were related to patient trajectories for time to diagnosis and initiation

Social capital is associated with lower mosquito vector indices: secondary analysis from a cluster randomised controlled trial of community mobilisation for dengue prevention in Mexico.

BACKGROUND: Control of the Aedes aegypti mosquito is central to reducing the risk of dengue, zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever. Randomised controlled trials, including the Camino Verde trial in Mexico and Nicaragua, demonstrate the convincing impact of community mobilisation interventions on vector indices. These interventions might work through building social capital but little is known about the relationship between social capital and vector indices. METHODS: A secondary analysis used data collected from 45 intervention clusters and 45 control clusters in the impact survey of the Mexican
