BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Controversy exists as to whether posterior circulation infarction (PCI) has a poorer outcome compared to anterior circulation infarction (ACI). We aimed to investigate whether PCI had different clinical outcomes from ACI in Chinese patients with ischemic stroke.
METHODS: Data on ischemic stroke patients with ACI or PCI were collected including demographics, risk factors and 1-month, 3-month, and 1-year case fatality and disability (defined as modified Rankin Scale 3-5). AIM: Analysis of risk factors for the outcome of arterial embolism of the extremities (EE).
METHODS: Between 1999 and 2003, all patients (n=200) with an EE diagnosed in various departments of the hospital were recruited and analysed retrospectively (single center study). A retrospective, descriptive and exploratory study on the frequency of tuberculosis diagnosis in patients from 4 municipalities of the City of Havana was undertaken. Of a total number of 195 TB-suspected cases, 25 showed enough evidence recorded in their medical histories and 10 of them were finally diagnosed with tuberculosis: 5 BAAR(+) and 5 BAAR(-). This retrospective study was designed to investigate the current practice of nasotracheal intubation (NTI) in the Emergency Department (ED) at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center. Over a 5-year period, 21% (105/501) of patients intubated in the ED had at least one NTI attempt.
