BACKGROUND: The first description of the use of a rapid assay for the measurement of intact parathyroid hormone (PTH) in patients undergoing parathyroidectomy for hyperparathyroidism was reported in 1988. To investigate pituitary-adrenal function in acute uncomplicated falciparum malaria, we performed an overnight dexamethasone suppression test in 13 Vietnamese adults with acute malaria and 6 healthy controls. We report a 27-year-old female with Crohn's disease clinically misdiagnosed with intestinal endometriosis. Her complaints were abdominal pain and fullness, which occurred monthly during her menstrual period.
