We have determined the number of circulating T, B and natural killer cells in renal transplant recipients in order to detect changes during cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections. Serial blood samples were taken from 61 patients on standard triple immunosuppression therapy (cyclosporin A, azathioprine and prednisone). Using two-color flow cytometry analysis, the absolute number of CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD19+, CD3+HLA-DR+ and CD16+56+ cells was determined. Results from recent clinical trials have indicated that recombinant interferon-beta (rIFN-beta) is a promising drug for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a disease of supposed autoimmune etiology. We report six Chinese boys with hypogammaglobulinaemia. All but one had very low or undetectable circulating B-lymphocytes, two had reversed CD4/CD8 ratios (in one of whom this latter became normal), one had reduced lymphocyte proliferative responses to concanavalin A and pokeweed mitogen and three had deficient responses to OKT3. We have studied the mechanisms underlying expansion of recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2)-stimulated natural killer (NK) cells in vitro. Burkitt lymphoma (BL) lines can be grouped according to phenotypic characteristics. Group I cells exhibit the phenotype of resting B cells and grow as single cells. Granulomatous inflammations in schistosomiasis mansoni are the result of T-cell-mediated reactions to soluble egg antigens (SEA) secreted by parasite ova. To study TDH effector cell function, a granuloma T-cell line was established from collagenase-digested liver granulomas of acutely infected CBA/J mice.
