Clinical application of serum Mac-2-binding protein glycosylation isomer in the diagnosis of liver fibrosis: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Mac-2-binding protein glycosylation isomer (M2BPGi) is associated with the diagnosis of liver fibrosis among different stages (F1-F4). The diagnostic performance of M2BPGi has been evaluated for predicting fibrosis in patients with chronic liver diseases. However, the lack of a unified cutoff value leads to confusion in clinical applications, and a meta-analysis is urgently needed to integrate the data. METHODS: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, the WHO Clinical Trials Registry, Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect for relevant studies published through March 31, 2024. M…

Biomechanics of acceleration and deceleration tasks in sport: A systematic review of the integration between mechanical and performance outcomes.

Acceleration and deceleration are fundamental to sport performance, yet biomechanical studies do not consistently integrate performance outcomes with kinematic and kinetic analyses. To synthesize evidence on lower-limb biomechanics during sport-specific acceleration/deceleration tasks and determine whether performance-related outcomes were concurrently reported. This systematic review followed PRISMA 2020. PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus, and Cochrane Library were searched from inception to 9 February 2026. Tasks were classified as linear or change-of-direction (COD) when b…

Cardiovascular Disease as a Multisystem Disorder: Integrating Inflammation, Metabolism, and Organ Crosstalk.

Historically, cardiovascular disease (CVD) has often been regarded as a primarily cardiac condition. Nevertheless, recent research data suggests that this disease should be considered a multifactorial and multisystem one. In this narrative review, available evidence related to inflammatory processes, metabolic disorders, neurohormonal signaling, endothelial dysfunction, and communication between organs will be summarized to illustrate the pathophysiology of CVD. A structured search of available literature was performed using the PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databa…

Moving Beyond the Hyperkinetic Hypothesis for Weight Gain After Deep Brain Stimulation in Parkinson Disease.

OBJECTIVES: Weight loss is a common manifestation of Parkinson disease (PD) and is associated with frailty, morbidity, and mortality. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) often leads to significant postoperative weight gain, which confers a survival benefit. This weight gain has traditionally been attributed to reduced energy expenditure resulting from improved hyperkinetic motor symptoms. We aimed to critically examine the evidence for this hyperkinetic hypothesis and to explore alternative mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a structured narrative review of the MEDLINE and Embase data b…

Time to rethink ICD indications in non-ishaemic cardiomyopathy? Evidence from a meta-analysis across therapeutic eras.

Implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) reduce sudden cardiac death (SCD) in non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy (NICM), but most evidence predates comprehensive guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT). We quantified the relative and absolute survival benefit of primary-prevention ICDs in NICM across therapeutic eras and explored how contemporary GDMT modifies absolute benefit. We searched MEDLINE, Embase, and CENTRAL through March 2025 and included randomized controlled trials comparing prophylactic ICD implantation vs control in NICM with left ventricular ejection fraction ≤35%. Three tria…
