OBJECTIVE: Posterior/posterolateral lumbar fusion (PLF) is an effective treatment for a variety of spinal disorders; however, variations in surgical technique have different complication profiles. The aim of our study was to quantify the frequency of various complications in patients undergoing PLF with and without human recombinant bone morphogenetic protein 2 (rhBMP2).

Surgical site infections (SSI) are the most common healthcare-associated infections. Approximately 2-5% of all surgeries develop SSI as a complication. These infections are responsible for significant fatality, morbidity, and length of hospital stay. The purpose of this study was to describe characteristics of SSI in a community hospital in Puerto Rico. This was cross-sectional study. Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a significant source of morbidity and mortality and is associated with many orthopedic procedures. This article describes the initiation and evolution of the Rapid-Access Anemia Clinic (RAAC) at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, London, UK. PURPOSE: Stuve-Wiedemann syndrome is a rare condition consisting of bone dysplasia, hypotony, and dysautonomia with ocular and neuropathic features. We present the ocular findings and visual outcome in 4 patients (2 siblings, 1 related cousin, and 1 unrelated patient) with this syndrome.
METHODS: A retrospective case series review. Clinical notes of 4 patients with Stuve-Wiedemann syndrome were reviewed for findings of systemic features, ocular examination, visual acuity, and ocular procedures.
