The shape and distribution of lysosomes in the ciliary epithelium of rat eyes were examined by electron microscopy combined with acid phosphatase (ACPase) cytochemistry and three-dimensional observation of 2 microns-thick sections. ACPase activity was cytochemically localized in lysosomes and trans Golgi cisternae in the non-pigmented epithelial (NPE) and pigmented epithelial (PE) cells. The absorption of beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) by cultured explants of the normal adult duodenal mucosa has been studied in vitro using immunocytochemical techniques. While levels of maternal immunoglobulin G (IgG) increase in the fetal circulation during the third trimester, actual trophoblastic concentrations have not been extensively studied. Implications of P-450 in human hepatic disorders were immunohistochemically examined. We first confirmed that an antibody against P-450-HM1, an isozyme of cytochrome P-450 which was purified from human livers at autopsy, detects only P-450 on immunoblots.
