PURPOSE: In 2012, the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) restricted prescription of trimetazidine (TMZ) to "add-on therapy for patients with stable angina pectoris who are inadequately controlled by or intolerant to first-line therapies." TMZ was no longer indicated for ophthalmology and otolaryngology. Risk minimization measure (RMM) was communicated to physicians. The survey presented here evaluated effectiveness of the RMM and assessed physicians knowledge and compliance with RMM. It also analyzed actual prescribing pattern of TMZ.

OBJECTIVES: Ventricular assist devices (VAD) are increasingly implanted in patients with terminal heart failure. Here we describe the clinical course, management and outcome of VAD patients with S. aureus bloodstream infection (SAB).
METHODS: We conducted a post hoc analysis of data from 1073 patients who had been prospectively enrolled in two consecutive SAB bicenter cohort studies. Patients with VAD in situ at the onset of SAB were identified. Follow-up of patients was at least 90 days.

OVERVIEW: The suicide rate among children and adolescents has increased worldwide over the past few decades, and many who attempt suicide are first seen at EDs. At Childrens Hospital Boston (CHB), an algorithm-the Risk of Suicidality Clinical Practice Algorithm-has been developed to ensure evidence-based care supported by best practice guidelines. The authors of this article provide an overview of pediatric suicide and suicide attempts; describe screening, assessment, and interventions used at CHB; and discuss the nursing implications. The presence of bilateral carotid artery occlusions in patients that require coronary artery bypass surgery is rare. Here, we report the successful coronary revascularization of two patients with cardiopulmonary bypass under moderate hypothermia. Routine preoperative carotid artery duplex sonographies revealed bilateral total internal carotid occlusions.
