Ruptured primary ovarian pregnancy: A case report with a literature review.

RATIONALE: Ovarian pregnancy is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy, accounting for 0.5% to 3% of the total number of ectopic pregnancies. Its diagnostic rate is very low and it can be easily misdiagnosed before laparoscopy, due to the clinical presentation being very similar to tubal pregnancy. The ovarian blood supply is abundant, and in case of rupture of ovarian pregnancy, intra-abdominal hemorrhage or even hemorrhagic shock may occur, endangering the patient's life. We report a case of ruptured primary ovarian pregnancy through natural conception. PATIENT CONCERNS: This patient had a histor…

Infected Ruptured Pseudo-aneurysm in Descending Aorta; a Case Report.

Aortitis is the inflammation of the aortic wall. It can be caused by both infectious and non-infectious etiologies. Mycotic aneurysm is a rare, serious medical condition and typically requires prompt treatment with antibiotics, surgical intervention, or endovascular procedures to prevent rupture and complications. Here we reported, a 66-year-old male patient with a medical history of diabetes and hypertension, who presented to the emergency department (ED) with left-sided hemiplegia. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed infarction in the right parietooccipital and left occipital lob…

Patients' Characteristics Associated With Size of Ruptured and Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysms.

OBJECTIVE: The size of unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIA) remains the most crucial risk factor for treatment decisions. On the other side, there is a non-negligible portion of small ruptured IA and large stable UIA. This study aimed to identify the patients' characteristics related to IA size in the context of IA rupture status. METHODS: A total of 2152 patients, with 1002 being hospitalized for an acute aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), were included from our institutional IA database. Different demographic and clinical characteristics of patients and IA were collected. IA size …

A rare case rupture of sinus of Valsalva aneurysm in a peripheral hospital.

Background: The sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (SVA) is an uncommon cardiac abnormality that may be either congenital or acquired. Case: In this case we describe a 73-year-old man who complained of acute shortness of breath. Echocardiography showed rupturing of a sinus Valsalva aneurysm into the right ventricle with ventricular septal defect/rupture diagnoses in a peripheral hospital far from a reference hospital. Conclusion: Echocardiography can aid in distinguishing between different diagnoses and serve as a catalyst for more exploration into the underlying cause. This can enhance the likelihood…

A rare case of ruptured appendiceal diverticulitis: A significant surgical pathology.

Appendiceal diverticulitis is a rare pathology which is distinctly different to acute appendicitis and associated with higher rates of morbidity and mortality. Furthermore, diagnosis is often retrospective on histopathological analysis of appendicectomy specimens due to the atypical clinical and radiological features. Herein, we present a case of ruptured appendiceal diverticulitis in a young patient with atypical clinical features and a radiologically normal appearing appendix in close proximity to an inflammatory phlegmon. This case highlights the importance of maintaining a high clinical su…

Splenic Rupture Secondary to Amyloidosis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Amyloidosis is a term describing the extracellular deposit of fibrils composed of subunits of several different normal serum proteins in various tissues. Amyloid light chain (AL) amyloidosis contains fibrils that are composed of fragments of monoclonal light chains. Many different disorders and conditions can lead to spontaneous splenic rupture, including AL amyloidosis. We present a case of a 64-year-old woman with spontaneous splenic rupture and hemorrhage. A final diagnosis of systemic amyloidosis secondary to plasma cell myeloma was made with infiltrative cardiomyopathy and possible diasto…

Transcatheter closure of a ruptured sinus of valsalva: a systematic review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Ruptured sinus of Valsalva (RSOV) is a rare pathology, and current data regarding its symptoms, anatomy, associated pathologies, and appropriate therapeutic approaches are scarce. Transcatheter closure (TCC) has been performed in multiple cases; however, the information on its success rate and complications is limited. METHODS: Two independent reviewers performed an advanced search based on inclusion criteria on Scopus, PubMed, and Embase from January 1985 through July 2022. The main search terms were "Sinus of Valsalva", "Rupture/Aneurysm", and "Transcatheter/Catheter/Device". R…

Clinical and Morphological Factors for Ruptured Anterior Communicating Artery Aneurysms.

INTRODUCTION: The anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysm, the most frequent cerebral aneurysm to rupture, carries a significant clinical burden, yet the factors influencing its rupture are limited in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the clinical and morphological features associated with ruptured ACoA compared to non-AcoA aneurysms among Indonesians. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed our center's aneurysm patient registry from January 2019 to December 2022, and compared the clinical and morphological features between ruptured ACoA aneurysms and ruptured aneurysms…

Parent artery occlusion for ruptured aneurysms in moyamoya vessels or on collaterals.

BACKGROUND: Aneurysms in moyamoya vessels or on collaterals are difficult to treat. Parent artery occlusion (PAO) via endovascular treatment (EVT) is often the last resort, but the safety and efficacy of this approach need to be evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was performed on patients admitted to our hospital who were diagnosed with unilateral or bilateral moyamoya disease (MMD) associated with ruptured aneurysms in moyamoya vessels or on collaterals. These aneurysms were treated with PAO, and the clinical outcome was recorded. RESULTS: Eleven patients were aged 54.7…

A Case Report of Ruptured Popliteal Aneurysm in the Setting of Blunt Trauma.

INTRODUCTION: Popliteal artery aneurysms are in most cases asymptomatic but cause significant complications if ruptured. An acute popliteal aneurysm rupture is relatively rare, and few cases have been documented secondary to blunt trauma. Common presenting signs and symptoms include distal limb ischemia and absent dorsalis pedis pulses. Timely management and recognition of this rare presentation are crucial as this condition can result in limb loss or death if not treated in a timely manner. CASE REPORT: An 80-year-old man with history of hypertension presented to the emergency department com…

SIMULTANEOUS RUPTURE OF THE PATELLAR AND CONTRALATERAL QUADRICEPS TENDONS IN A NEPHROPATHY PATIENT.

UNLABELLED: Simultaneous rupture of the patellar and contralateral quadriceps tendons in patients with chronic renal failure is an extremely rare condition, with few cases described in the medical literature. Several systemic pathological conditions that lead to a decline in kidney function can predispose individuals to spontaneous tendon rupture, such as rheumatological and endocrine diseases, and even gestational conditions, such as eclampsia. OBJECTIVE: In this case report, we describe the case of a 39-year-old woman with chronic renal failure on dialysis due to a previous history of eclam…

Spontaneously Ruptured Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Computed Tomography-Based Assessment.

Spontaneously ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (SRHCC) is an uncommon and life-threatening complication in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It is usually associated with chronic liver disease and has a poor prognosis with a high mortality rate during the acute phase. SRHCC can cause a severe and urgent condition of acute abdomen disease and requires a correct diagnosis to achieve adequate treatment. Clinical presentation is related to the presence of hemoperitoneum, and abdominal pain is the most common symptom (66-100% of cases). Although the treatment approach is not unique, tr…

Transpetrosal Approach to a Ruptured Distal Basilar Perforating Artery Aneurysm.

Basilar perforating artery aneurysms are rare and underreported vascular anomalies in the cerebrovascular literature. Various open and endovascular treatment approaches can be employed to treat these aneurysms based on several patient- and aneurysm-specific factors. Some authors have even advocated for conservative, nonoperative management. Here, we report a case of a ruptured distal basilar perforating artery aneurysm secured by an open transpetrosal approach. A 67-year-old male presented to our institution with a Hunt-Hess grade 2, modified Fisher grade 3 subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Initi…
