"What Do You Need?" Formative Research to Develop a Comprehensive Maternal Needs Assessment Tool for Infant and Young Child Nourishment and Care in the United States.

Background/Objectives: Despite substantial healthcare spending, U.S. mothers encounter fragmented support systems for infant feeding, care, and maternal mental health. While existing needs assessment instruments target parents of ill or preterm infants, no validated tool captures the full range of informational, psychosocial, and structural needs among mothers of healthy, full-term infants. This formative mixed-methods study sought to identify and prioritize maternal needs across multiple socioecological levels to guide the development of a comprehensive Maternal Needs Assessment Tool (MNAT).

Specialists' perceptions of clinical instruments, practices, and staging of DS-AD: Results from an international survey.

INTRODUCTION: Diagnosing and staging Down syndrome-associated Alzheimer's disease (DS-AD) is hindered by the lack of standardized criteria, complicating clinical decision making, trial participation, and access to advanced therapies. This study aimed to explore perceptions of these issues. METHOD: An international survey of 42 clinicians and researchers specializing in DS-AD gathered perspectives on instruments, symptomatic staging, clinical practices, and research priorities. RESULTS: Respondents noted that key domains of impairment in mild cognitive impairment in Down syndrome and DS-AD de

The Influence of County Contexts on Preterm Births Among Latina Mothers in the US.

Preterm birth (PTB), defined as delivery before 37 weeks of gestation, is a significant public health issue, with implications for newborns, families, and society. The residential contexts in which mothers live may, in part, shape their risk of delivering preterm. Although ethnic enclaves-residential settings with a large concentration of people from the same ethnic group-exist within counties, little is known about how different county contexts shape PTB. This national study investigates the association between living in distinct county types and preterm births among Latina mothers (N = 1,084

Association between psychological disorders and migraine in young U.S. adults with gender-specific analysis and marital status considerations.

BACKGROUND: Emerging biopsychosocial perspectives emphasize the complex interplay between psychological burden and migraine, particularly during young adulthood-a period marked by neurodevelopmental vulnerability and shifting social roles. However, gender-specific associations and the modifying role of marital status in this context remain poorly understood. METHODS: This population-based study analyzed 3,180 U.S. young adults aged 20-39 years using the 1999-2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Migraine was identified via self-reported symptoms and medication use; psychologi

Perceived disabling physical pain and suicidal ideation in aging people living with HIV cured of hepatitis C: A multi-center survey in France (ANRS CO13 HEPAVIH).

INTRODUCTION: Suicidal ideation (SI) is highly prevalent among people living with HIV (PWH) and those with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Individuals with long-term HIV-HCV co-infection face specific health challenges, including heightened physical pain. We aimed to assess whether disabling physical pain is associated with SI in aging PWH who have been cured of HCV, after controlling for potential correlates or confounders such as depression and psychoactive substance use. METHODS: We analysed data from HCV-cured PWH who participated in a multi-center cross-sectional survey embedd

Negative Mood is Associated with Sociobehavioral Factors Contributing to Cardiovascular Risk in an Immigrant Population.

BACKGROUND: Immigrants to the United States, on average, accumulate cardiovascular risk after resettlement, including obesity. There is a need to co-create interventions to address these disparities, and mood may be an important mediating factor. METHODS: The Healthy Immigrant Community (HIC) study, set in southeast Minnesota, enrolled 475 adult participants in a weight loss intervention to reduce cardiovascular risk. Baseline questionnaires assessed mood, nutrition, physical activity, self-efficacy for healthy eating and physical activity, social support, and cohesion. A single-item mood rat

The impact of source and consumption of news on mental distress among inflammatory bowel disease patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: We sought to understand the trends in media use, and how consumption and source affected mental health of persons with inflammatory bowel disease during the early parts of the pandemic. Dissemination of news during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was integral to educating the public but also could be harmful if constantly consumed, leading to worsening anxiety. METHODS: We performed a survey study in autumn 2020 during the second wave of COVID-19 in Manitoba. The survey included questions on consumption of COVID-19 news, along with validated measures of perceived

Exploring the Intersection of Hegemonic Masculinity, Sexuality, and Addiction in Men: A Qualitative Study.

Background/Objectives: In our society, as well as in many other parts of the world, sexuality is shaped through gender-differentiated socialization. This process compels individuals to align their desires, behaviors, emotions, and thoughts with the expectations of normative sexuality, especially hegemonic heterosexuality. The primary objective of this current research was to examine the influence of hegemonic masculinity on the sexuality of men struggling with addiction. Method: This study employed a qualitative approach, specifically using conventional content analysis. To ensure research qua

Inter-generational impact: Exploring the influence of older sister-in-law's contraceptive choices on her peer contraception adoption in India.

OBJECTIVE: Social network-based reproductive decisions are critical. This study compares the effect of an older peer contraceptionuse on her younger peer's use, as they share the closest social network within the household, and tend to influence one another for reproductive decisions. In this study we considered peers as two sister-in-law living in the same household. METHODS: We used data from the fifth round of National Family Health Survey which was conducted between the year 2019 and 2021. We deployed multinomial multivariable logistic regression to find the association between older wome

Mental health burden among females living with HIV and AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa: A systematic review.

Mental health problems, particularly depression and anxiety, are common in women and young girls living with HIV/ AIDS particularly in low- and middle-income (LMICs) countries where women's vulnerability to psychiatric symptoms is heightened due to the prevalent intersectional stressors such as stigma and intimate partner violence. However, no synthesized evidence exists on the mental health burden of females living with HIV/AIDS (FLWHA) in Africa. This systematic review aimed to synthesize the current evidence on the mental health burden among FLWHA in sub-Saharan Africa. A systematic literat

[The body of pain. The experience of pain in the cancer patient.].

In oncological disease, a definition of pain as total suffering emerges. This complex phenomenon is characterized by the simultaneous involvement of several dimensions (bodily, cognitive, emotional, family, social, and cultural) held together by a bond of mutual interdependence. Cancer pain is pervasive and affects all aspects of a person's life. It alters the individual's perspective and perception of the world, creating a sense of stagnation and uncertainty characterized by anguish and precariousness. It threatens the sense of personal identity and extends its influence on the entire relatio

Mental health professionals' awareness of the parental functioning of persons with severe mental disorders: a retrospective chart study.

BACKGROUND: The proportion of persons with severe mental illness (SMI) who are parents has increased in recent decades. Children of parents with SMI are at increased risk for medical, behavioral, emotional, developmental, academic, and social problems. They also have an increased risk for injuries, accidents, and mortality, addictions, and various psychiatric disorders compared to children of parents with no such diagnoses. We aimed to examine the extent to which mental health professionals (MHPs) who treat adult patients with SMI in ambulatory settings are aware of these individuals' function

Exploring spatial heterogeneity and environmental injustices in exposure to flood hazards using geographically weighted regression.

This study explores flood-related environmental injustices by deconstructing racial, ethnic, and socio-demographic disparities and spatial heterogeneity in the areal extent of fluvial, pluvial, and coastal flooding across Canada. The study integrates JBA Risk Management's 100-year Canada Flood Map with the 2016 national census-based socioeconomic data to investigate whether traditionally recognized vulnerable groups and communities are exposed inequitably to inland (e.g., fluvial and pluvial) and coastal flood hazards. Social vulnerability was represented by neighbourhood-level socioeconomic d
