Meis transcription factors regulate cardiac conduction system development and adult function.

AIMS: The cardiac conduction system (CCS) is progressively specified during development by interactions among a discrete number of transcription factors (TFs) that ensure its proper patterning and the emergence of its functional properties. Meis genes encode homeodomain TFs with multiple roles in mammalian development. In humans, Meis genes associate with congenital cardiac malformations and alterations of cardiac electrical activity; however, the basis for these alterations has not been established. Here, we studied the role of Meis TFs in cardiomyocyte development and function during mouse d

Despite the lack of progress in the curative treatment of mental illness, especially schizophrenia, the accumulation of neuroscience data over the past decade suggests the re-conceptualization of schizophrenia. With the advent of new biomarkers and cognitive tools, new neuroscience technologies such as functional dynamic connectivity and the identification of subtle clinical features; it is now possible to detect early stages at risk or prodromes of a first psychotic episode. Current concepts reconceptualizes schizophrenia as a neurodevelopmental disorder at early onset, with polygenic risk an

Physics-informed hybrid neural networks with data constraints: A case study on lorenz63.

Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) are a hybrid modeling approach that integrates physical priors into neural networks. By encoding governing equations as soft constraint terms into the loss function, this method accomplishes organic integration of data-driven approaches with physical laws. PINNs demonstrate significant advantages in complex scenarios including data scarcity, high-dimensional spaces, and multi-physics coupling. However, existing research has identified many challenges that PINNs face when tackling with strongly nonlinear dynamical systems. Specifically, during the numeri

From "assistant" to "autonomous": legal liability and ethical traceability frameworks for generative AI in clinical misdiagnosis scenarios, with a special focus on paediatrics.

The integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) into clinical workflows has blurred the boundary between passive decision-support tools and systems capable of autonomous diagnostic reasoning. Current regulatory instruments-including the US FDA Clinical Decision Support Software (CDSS) guidance and the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation EU 2024/1689)-classify these systems primarily as "decision support," yet the non-deterministic outputs and emergent reasoning of generative AI introduce liability complexities these frameworks were not designed to address. This hypothesis and theory art

Prognostic implications of PD-L1 expression in gastric cancer: systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published between 2018 and 2025.

BACKGROUND: Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) is widely used as a predictive biomarker for response to immune checkpoint inhibitors in gastric cancer (GC); however, its independent prognostic value for overall survival remains controversial. Differences in PD-L1 detection methods, scoring systems, and tumor immune microenvironment characteristics may contribute to inconsistent findings across studies. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between PD-L1 expression and overall survival in patients with GC. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Sc

Optimising surgical resection strategy in high grade glioma: an evidence-informed, capability-aligned surgical framework for heterogeneous health systems.

BACKGROUND: Maximal safe surgical resection remains a major determinant of outcome in high grade glioma, with increasing resection and lower residual tumour volume associated with improved survival. However, the oncologic benefit of aggressive resection is conditional on preservation of neurological function and timely delivery of adjuvant therapy. Much of the evidence informing operative strategy derives from highly resourced healthcare systems and may not be directly applicable across heterogeneous practice environments. We therefore sought to synthesise contemporary evidence regarding exten

A systematic scoping review for decolonial public and global health: Indigenous frameworks and models of wellbeing from Turtle Island and Moananuiākea.

BACKGROUND: Equitable approaches to public and global health require grounding in diverse ontologies of wellbeing and decolonial theory. Indigenous wellbeing models and frameworks embed holistic values that support ecological thriving. In contrast, Western approaches often individualize and compartmentalize wellbeing, narrowing public and global health practice and contributing to persistent disparities. Despite the proliferation of Indigenous-developed frameworks, no scoping review has synthesized contributions in this area. This review aimed to identify models, frameworks, and theories of we

Functionalized carbon nanotubes as nanoinhibitors of asphaltene aggregation: a molecular dynamics approach for enhanced oil recovery.

CONTEXT: Asphaltene aggregation and deposition pose major challenges in crude oil transport and processing. While extensive experimental studies have explored mitigation strategies, nanomaterials-particularly carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-have emerged as promising inhibitors due to their ability to adsorb asphaltenes and limit their clustering. However, experimental approaches provide limited insight into molecular-scale mechanisms. To address this, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were performed to investigate interactions between model asphaltenes and CNTs in a toluene/heptane solvent. Five sys

NanoArduSiPM: A Miniaturized Integrated Platform for Scalable Scintillation-Based Particle Detection.

NanoArduSiPM represents a paradigm shift in the ArduSiPM (Architected Detection Unit for Silicon Photomultipliers) roadmap, evolving from a standalone instrument into a high-density modular building block (36 mm × 42 mm × 3 mm, 7 g). This revision does not merely pursue miniaturization; it re-engineers the signal-processing chain to maintain high performance within a scaled-down footprint, enabling the transition from single-unit detection to scalable, distributed multi-detector systems. NanoArduSiPM is based on a three-layer architecture comprising an external scintillator and Silicon Photomu

Toward a Developmental Timing Framework for Autism: Linking Hemispheric Asymmetry, Motor Organization, and Motor-Social Coupling.

Early behavioral features associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are frequently examined within separate motor, sensory, and social domains rather than as interacting components of a developing neurobiological system. In this article, we present a hypothesis-driven conceptual framework proposing that variation in developmental timing and coordination across neural, motor, and interpersonal systems may contribute to differences in early social developmental trajectories. Drawing on evidence from fetal, infant, and early childhood development, we consider how hemispheric specialization,

Navigating spatial barriers in healthcare: health equity and end-of-life care infrastructure in South Korea and China.

INTRODUCTION: East Asia is experiencing an unprecedented demographic transformation, with rapidly aging populations creating an urgent public health demand for accessible hospice and palliative care facilities. However, infrastructural planning regulations may implicitly marginalize these essential health services as stigmatized facilities, creating regulatory and institutional conditions that can constrain community-adjacent access to end-of-life care. METHODS: This study conducts a structured comparative legal and health policy analysis of facility-siting frameworks in South Korea and China
