Synergistic antibacterial and antibiofilm properties of lupinifolin in combination with antibiotics against pathogenic bacteria.

Lupinifolin possesses the capability to combat specific pathogenic bacteria. Nonetheless, Gram-negative bacteria exhibit minimal inhibition by lupinifolin. This study evaluated the synergistic antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of combinations of lupinifolin and antibiotics against pathogenic bacteria using a checkerboard assay and time-kill analysis. Crystal violet staining and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) were utilized to evaluate antibiofilm properties. After treatment, gene expression changes in isolates were evaluated using quantitative real-time PCR. Lupinifolin and st

Synthesis, in vitro and in silico evaluation of halogenated xanthone and benzophenone derivatives as antibacterial agents against acne-causing bacteria.

Acne which is caused by Cutibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is the most common skin problem among adolescents and young adults. Topical antibiotics like tetracycline are commonly used to treat acne but their effectiveness has declined as bacteria develop antibiotic resistance. Thus, this research emphasizes the antibacterial properties of new synthetic derivatives of halogenated xanthone and benzophenone (1a-1f), (2a-2d), (3a-3i), and (4a-4j) via in vitro antibacterial assay with tetracycline, erythromycin, and salicylic acid as reference standards. Based on the well diffusi

The presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria at four Norwegian wastewater treatment plants: seasonal and wastewater-source effects.

Wastewater treatment plants receive low concentrations of antibiotics. Residual concentrations of antibiotics in the effluent may accelerate the development of antibiotic resistance in the receiving environments. Monitoring of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) in countries with strict regulation of antibiotic use is important in gaining knowledge of how effective these policies are in preventing the emergence of ARGs or whether other strategies are required, for example, at-source treatment of hospital effluents. This study evaluates the presence of certain common resistance genes (bla SHV

A Retrospective Review of a Cohort of Patients with Periorificial Dermatitis Treated with Sarecycline.

INTRODUCTION: Periorificial dermatitis (POD) is a common, chronic, inflammatory facial skin rash that presents as tiny papules and papulopustules with underlying eczematous-like patches, typically confined to the perioral, perinasal, and periorbital areas. There is currently no Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-indicated treatment for POD; however, broad-spectrum antibiotics are efficacious as a treatment option. Broad-spectrum antibiotics negatively impact gut flora and lead to antibiotic resistance. Narrow-spectrum tetracyclines, such as sarecycline, have a low potential for promoting bacte…
