We analysed cancer risks in patients with urinary tract stones but some features of the generated results alarmed us about possible surveillance bias, which we describe in this report. We used nationwide Swedish hospital records to identify patients with urinary tract stones (N = 211,718) and cancer registration data for cancer patients for years 1987 to 2012. AIMS: To develop a nomogram with severity categories for detrusor overactivity (DO).
METHODS: By conducting ice water tests (IWT) in 55 patients with Parkinson's disease, we identified criteria to describe characteristics of the detrusor pressure curves: (1) a gradient of Δpdet over Δt at the maximum detrusor pressure and (2) the area under the curve. In a nomogram, 10 severity categories of DO were established: 1 and 2 were assigned to group A (mild), 3 and 4 to group B (moderate) and 5-10 to group C (severe).

Six of 11 patients have had 2 to 7 1/2 years of followup evaluation after cutaneous omento-ureterostomy. Results were excellent in 3 cases and good in 1, while ureteral stomal stenosis developed in the 2 patients irradiated for bladder cancer. Complete prevention of cutaneous ureterostomy stoma stenosis remains unachieved but the use of a plastic meatal dilator seems useful.

Bladder temperature measured by a thermistor tipped urinary catheter was compared to rectal temperature in 14 ICU patients. During a period of five days 2 x 232 measurements were recorded, and good correlation was found between rectal and bladder temperatures (R = 0.97). There did not seem to be any drift in the bladder thermistor. Measurement was accurate during periods of oliguria. We find that bladder temperature measurement is reliable, safe, convenient and accurate for routine use in the ICU.
