Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast, from diagnosis to management: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast is a rare subtype, constituting less than 3.5% of primary breast carcinomas. Despite being categorized as a type of triple-negative breast cancer, it generally has a favorable prognosis. The primary management approach typically involves breast-conserving surgery. Due to its rarity, diagnosis can be challenging, emphasizing the importance of histopathological confirmation with clinical and imaging correlation. Although this tumor often has a favorable prognosis, additional research is necessary to better understand its clinical, radiological,

Adenoid cystic carcinoma in a male breast: a case report and literature review.

Breast adenoid cystic carcinoma (BACC) is a rare occurrence constituting less than 0.1% of primary breast cancers. BACC is even more rare in male patients. Furthermore, there are currently no concrete treatment guidelines for BACC. Therefore, it is imperative to conduct a thoughtful evaluation and diagnostic workup when a potential case is encountered. We report a 63-year old male who initially presented to the dermatologist with a nonhealing inflamed leiomyoma of the left breast, raising suspicion for inflammatory breast cancer. A percutaneous biopsy was performed, and pathology revealed frag

Adenoid hypertrophy detection inventory in children for primary care physicians and pediatricians.

OBJECTIVE: Adenoid tissue consists of clusters of lymphoid tissue within the nasopharynx and can cause symptoms due to obstruction when hypertrophied. The gold standard for diagnosis is endoscopic nasopharyngoscopy, but it is not always readily available. This study aims to develop an inventory that primary care physicians and pediatricians can use to predict the degree of adenoid hypertrophy clinically, facilitating the planning of patient follow-up and treatment. STUDY DESIGN: A diagnostic test study. SETTINGS: tertiary referral hospital. METHODS: The study involved 123 cases, with 82 in

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the Sinonasal Cavity: A Case Report and Literature Review.

INTRODUCTION: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), a rare, aggressive malignancy of secretory epithelia, is often present with nonspecific symptoms, delaying diagnosis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 67-year-old male reported 10 months of nasal obstruction, mouth breathing, and sleep disturbances. The initial evaluation for foreign body obstruction revealed septal deviation and low-density sinonasal tissue on CT. MRI identified a 7 × 4.5 × 7 cm heterogeneous lesion invading nasal structures, paranasal sinuses, and nasopharynx with diffusion restriction. Tru-cut biopsy confirmed ACC via cribriform, tubular,

Machine Learning Analysis of Lipid and Metabolic Profiles in Adults with Adenoid Hyperplasia.

Background and Objectives: The nasopharynx, unlike other pharyngeal regions, includes an important part of the immune system, called the adenoid (nasopharyngeal tonsil); its posterior wall contains lymphoid tissue belonging to Waldeyer's ring. Nasopharyngeal posterior wall thickness is often associated with adenoid hyperplasia in adults. The current study aimed to compare the blood lipid and metabolic profiles of adult patients with increased nasopharyngeal posterior wall thickness to those of the healthy population. Materials and Methods: This study included a cohort of 98 patients, 52 in the

Clinical features and prognostic factors of salivary adenoid cystic and mucoepidermoid carcinomas.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) and mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) are common malignant tumors of the salivary glands. This study aimed to compare ACC and MEC regarding clinical features and survival factors. Data from all ACC and MEC cases between 2000 and 2020 were extracted from the US National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Clinical features, overall survival (OS), and disease-specific survival (DSS) were assessed for both cancer types. The study included 1426 ACC cases and 3190 MEC cases. In ACC, 580 patients (40.7%) were male, while in MEC,

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the Bartholin's gland is underpinned by MYB- and MYBL1- rearrangements.

OBJECTIVE: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) of the Bartholin's gland (AdCC-BG) is a very rare gynecologic vulvar malignancy. AdCC-BGs are slow-growing but locally aggressive and are associated with high recurrence rates. Here we sought to characterize the molecular underpinning of AdCC-BGs. METHODS: AdCC-BGs (n = 6) were subjected to a combination of RNA-sequencing, targeted DNA-sequencing, reverse-transcription PCR, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and MYB immunohistochemistry (IHC). Clinicopathologic variables, somatic mutations, copy number alterations and chimeric transcripts were

Adenoid Cystic carcinoma of minor salivary glands (AdCCmSG): a multidisciplinary update.

INTRODUCTION: Adenoid cystic carcinoma of minor salivary glands (AdCCmSG) represents a 'rarity in the rarity,' posing a clinical challenge in lack of standardized, evidence-based recommendations. At present, AdCCmSG management is mostly translated from major salivary gland cancers (MSGCs). Ideally, AdCCmSG diagnostic-therapeutic workup should be discussed and carried out within a multidisciplinary, high-expertise setting, including pathologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists. AREAS COVERED: The present review provides an overview of epidemiology and pathologic classi

Metastatic Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma to the Pancreas: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Although more than 90% of pancreatic tumors represent primary tumors, specifically ductal adenocarcinomas, metastatic tumors are not infrequent at this site. Metastasis of salivary gland tumors to the pancreas is exceedingly rare, with only a few cases reported in the English-language medical literature. Here, we report a patient with metastatic adenoid cystic carcinoma to the pancreas, 24 months following the initial diagnosis, and review the available literature on secondary tumors located in the pancreas with an emphasis on tumors of salivary gland origin.

The effects of adenoid hypertrophy and oral breathing on maxillofacial development: a review of the literature.

According to modern epidemiological surveys, the prevalence of adenoid hypertrophy in children and adolescents ranges from 42% to 70%. Adenoid hypertrophy can lead to airway obstruction; thus forces a child to breathe through their mouth, thus affecting the normal development of the dental and maxillofacial area, and can lead to malocclusion. Long-term mouth breathing can cause sagittal, vertical and lateral changes in the maxillofacial area. In this article, we review the current research status relating to the association between adenoid hypertrophy, oral breathing and maxillofacial growth a

A Case of Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis With Adenoid Hypertrophy and Associated Airway Challenges.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis is a form of TMJ condition that causes mouth opening limitation, ranging from partial reduction to total immobilization of the jaw. Bony and fibrous ankylosis is most commonly caused by trauma, although it can also happen as a result of surgery, local or systemic infections, or systemic diseases. Childhood TMJ produces facial deformities, which increase with growth and have a major detrimental impact on the patient's psychological development. Each patient with TMJ ankylosis must have a history, physical examination, and radiographic examination in order

Histological analysis of glucocorticoid receptor and eosinophilic cytokines in the adenoid mucosal epithelium.

OBJECTIVE: In recent years, the clinical efficacy of medications for adenoid hypertrophy has been demonstrated. Topical nasal steroids have effects to shrink hypertrophic adenoids and improve symptoms of associated diseases. However, the mechanism which topical steroid administrations cause adenoid shrinkage remains unclear, herein, sensitivity for topical steroids in the mucosal epithelium of adenoids was evaluated histologically by comparing with tonsils. METHODS: Histological analysis was performed on adenoids and tonsils removed from 32 pediatric patients with adenoid hypertrophy. In hema…

Differences in salivary microbiome among children with tonsillar hypertrophy and/or adenoid hypertrophy.

Children diagnosed with severe tonsillar hypertrophy display discernible craniofacial features distinct from those with adenoid hypertrophy, prompting illuminating considerations regarding microbiota regulation in this non-inflammatory condition. The present study aimed to characterize the salivary microbial profile in children with tonsillar hypertrophy and explore the potential functionality therein. A total of 112 children, with a mean age of 7.79 ± 2.41 years, were enrolled and divided into the tonsillar hypertrophy (TH) group (n = 46, 8.4 ± 2.5 years old), adenoid hypertrophy (AH) group (

Adenoid squamous cell carcinoma of buccal mucosa - A rare case report.

Adenoid squamous cell carcinoma is a rare variant of squamous cell carcinoma. It is mainly reported in the sun-exposed areas of the head and neck. In literature, adenoid variants of squamous cell carcinoma are reported in the lip and tongue. Documented cases of buccal mucosa are very few. In this case report, we describe an adenoid variant of squamous cell carcinoma, which is an unusual presentation of a rare carcinoma.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast with late recurrence and high-grade transformation.

Breast cancers have broad histological subtypes with varied molecular expression, which determines the management. Although ductal and lobular breast carcinomas constitute the significant 90% of these tumours, other subtypes constitute about 10% of breast cancers. Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) is a salivary gland-type tumour described in breast, constituting less than 1% of all breast carcinomas. These tumours have a favourable prognosis and are surgically managed by either lumpectomy or mastectomy. Solid-basaloid and AdCC with high-grade transformation are the sporadic subtypes of AdCC, in
