Cutaneous adverse reactions after COVID-19 vaccines in a cohort of 2740 Italian subjects: An observational study.

An in-depth characterization of the incidence, morphology, and onset of COVID-19-vaccines cutaneous adverse reactions is currently lacking. The existing literature on COVID-19 vaccination-related cutaneous adverse reactions largely focused on messenger RNA vaccines and mainly included type 1 hypersensitivity reactions, such as urticaria and angioedema. Other cutaneous manifestations are still poorly characterized and have been classified as delayed hypersensitivity rash. Our prospective observational study on a sample of 2740 subjects who underwent the COVID-19 vaccination aimed at defining th

[Behçet's disease with an onset prior to the appearance of chronic myeloid leukemia].

The case of a Ph-positive female patient with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is reported. The patient presented a cutaneous-mucous picture prior to the appearance of the hemopathy consisting of genitals ulcers, buccal aphthae and nodular cutaneous lesions the study of which demonstrated panniculitis. The lesions improved with the administration of low doses of prednisone and colchicine. The CML evolved to a blastic crisis of a monocytic phenotype at 14 months of diagnosis leading to death of the patient. The cutaneous-mucous picture was catalogued as Becçet disease (BD) according to the criter

Effects of atropine and L-NAME on cutaneous blood flow during body heating in humans.

We sought to investigate further the roles of sweating, ACh spillover, and nitric oxide (NO) in the neurally mediated cutaneous vasodilation during body heating in humans. Six subjects were heated with a water-perfused suit while cutaneous blood flow was measured with a laser-Doppler flowmeter. After a rise in core temperature (1. 0 +/- 0.1 degrees C) and the establishment of cutaneous vasodilation, atropine and subsequently the NO synthase inhibitor N(G)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) were given to the forearm via a brachial artery catheter. After atropine infusion, cutaneous vascular

Vitamins and the skin: Vitamin A and retinoids in dermatology.

Vitamin A and analogs are widely used in dermatology, with retinoids being natural and synthetic vitamin A derivatives. Topical retinoids (especially tretinoin and tretinoin precursors) can diminish photoaging and contribute to the thickening and restoration of skin collagen. Retinoids used as therapeutic agents include oral retinoids (eg, isotretinoin, acitretin, alitretinoin, and bexarotene) and topical retinoids (eg, isotretinoin, tretinoin, adapalene, tazarotene, and trifarotene). Although retinoids have traditionally been used for skin disorders of keratinization, such as psoriasis, pityr

Topical treatment of rosacea: update and outlook.

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that typically requires long term management. It is characterized by redness of the face, dilation of facial capillaries, the appearance of pimples and pustules, and it may lead to advanced conditions such as skin lymphoedema and rhinophyma. Initially, treatment involved oral drug administration, but a number of topical formulations have been developed as medicines to manage this skin disorder. Many rosacea patients have sensitive skin and side effects from current topical therapies have been shown to impact seriously on patient adherence to topical th

Glycols: The ubiquitous solvent for dermal formulations.

Glycols stand out as one of the most commonly employed safe and effective excipients for pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical products. Their widespread adoption can be attributed to their exceptional solvency characteristics and their ability to interact effectively with skin lipids and keratin for permeation enhancement. Notably, propylene glycol enjoys significant popularity in this regard. Ongoing research endeavours have been dedicated to scrutinising the impact of glycols on dermal drug delivery and shedding light on the intricate mechanisms by which glycols enhance skin permeation. Design and evaluation of adapalene microemulsion for transfollicular drug delivery through guinea pig skin.

INTRODUCTION: Acne vulgaris can be treated topically with adapalene, a synthetic derivative of naphthoic acid with retinoid activity. Adapalene has a very low rate of percutaneous absorption and is almost completely insoluble in water. To obviate this problem, microemulsion (ME) carrier is used. The study's goals were to create and characterize adapalene-loaded ME and assess the drug's transfollicular route of penetration to see if hair follicles can serve as a conduit for the drug to enter the skin. METHODS: Adapalene microemulsions (MEs) are made by combining the right amounts of the cosurf

Intestinal Villi-Inspired Mathematically Base-Layer Engineered Microneedles (IMBEMs) for Effective Molecular Exchange during Biomarker Enrichment and Drug Deposition in Diversified Mucosa.

The mucosa-interfacing systems based on bioinspired engineering design for sampling/drug delivery have manifested crucial potential for the monitoring of infectious diseases and the treatment of mucosa-related diseases. However, their efficiency and validity are severely restricted by limited contact area for molecular transfer and dissatisfactory capture/detachment capability. Herein, inspired by the multilayer villus structure of the small intestine that enables high nutrient absorption, a trigonometric function-based periodic pattern was fabricated and integrated on the base layer of the mi

Nanosized ethosomal dispersions for enhanced transdermal delivery of nebivolol using intradermal/transfollicular sustained reservoir: in vitro evaluation, confocal laser scanning microscopy, and in vivo pharmacokinetic studies.

Nebivolol (NBV), a BCS class II anti-hypertensive drug, suffers from limited solubility and oral bioavailability. Nanosized ethosomes were adopted as an approach to solubilize and deliver NBV transdermally, as a substitute to oral route. Ethosomal dispersions were prepared employing thin film hydration method. Formulation variables were adjusted to obtain entrapment efficiency; EE > 50%, particle size; PS < 100 nm, zeta potential; ZP > ±25 mV, and polydispersity index; PDI < 0.5. The optimized ethosomal dispersion (OED) showed accepted EE 86.46 ± 0.15%, PS 73.50 ± 0.08 nm, ZP 33.75 ± 1.20 mV,

Xenon Difluoride Dry Etching for the Microfabrication of Solid Microneedles as a Potential Strategy in Transdermal Drug Delivery.

Although hypodermic needles are a "gold standard" for transdermal drug delivery (TDD), microneedle (MN)-mediated TDD denotes an unconventional approach in which drug compounds are delivered via micron-size needles. Herein, an isotropic XeF2 dry etching process is explored to fabricate silicon-based solid MNs. A photolithographic process, including mask writing, UV exposure, and dry etching with XeF2 is employed, and the MN fabrication is successfully customized by modifying the CAD designs, photolithographic process, and etching conditions. This study enables fabrication of a very dense MNs (u
