Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) for loci on chromosome arm 1p is a relatively common event in human meningioma, and this anomaly has been proposed to be associated with the development of grade II or grade III forms (atypical and anaplastic meningiomas). Hepatoblastoma is the most common primary malignant liver tumor in children, yet little is known about molecular genetic changes in these tumors. Previous studies report loss of heterozygosity on chromosome arm 11p in some hepatoblastomas. The frequency of problems in the arm affected by surgery for breast cancer and the association of these problems with psychological distress were assessed among 223 women with newly diagnosed breast cancer 3 months after operation and again 15 months later among 201 of these same women. To further examine the use of arm vein for bypass to the popliteal or infrapopliteal arteries, we retrospectively reviewed 43 patients undergoing infrageniculate arterial bypass by use of an arm vein as a conduit. Nine grafts were done to the below-knee popliteal artery and 34 to the infrapopliteal arteries. A relationship exists between anterior shoulder subluxation and thoracic outlet syndrome that is responsible for the more florid symptoms of dead arm syndrome (DAS) in some patients. Lower arm reconstruction of soft tissue defects and after ablation for cancer leaves the reconstructive surgeon few alternatives. We have used latissimus dorsi muscle (n = 1) and musculocutaneous flaps (n = 3) with good functional and cosmetic results. Defects in one patient with traumatic amputation, another with extravasation of doxorubicin, and two with cancer were closed without complications to donor site, recipient site, or flap. Skin paddle size averaged 182 sq cm in the three musculocutaneous flaps. Mean follow-up was six months.
