On the Relationship of Viral Particles and Extracellular Vesicles: Implications for Viral Vector Technology.

Gene therapy vectors derived from different viral species have become a fixture in biomedicine, both for direct therapeutic intervention and as tools to facilitate cell-based therapies, such as chimeric antigen receptor-based immunotherapies. On the contrary, extracellular vesicles have only recently gained a massive increase in interest and, concomitantly, knowledge in the field has drastically risen. Viral infections and extracellular vesicle biology overlap in many ways, both with pro- and antiviral outcomes. In this review, we take a closer look at these interactions for the most prominent

Synthetic chemically modified mRNA (modRNA): toward a new technology platform for cardiovascular biology and medicine.

Over the past two decades, a host of new molecular pathways have been uncovered that guide mammalian heart development and disease. The ability to genetically manipulate these pathways in vivo have largely been dependent on the generation of genetically engineered mouse model systems or the transfer of exogenous genes in a variety of DNA vectors (plasmid, adenoviral, adeno-associated viruses, antisense oligonucleotides, etc.). Recently, a new approach to manipulate the gene program of the adult mammalian heart has been reported that will quickly allow the high-efficiency expression of virtuall

Toward a Translational Model of Sex-Associated Pavlovian Phenotypes.

A recent study by Hakus et al. (2025) demonstrated sex-associated differences in Pavlovian phenotypes in rodents, with females more likely to exhibit sign-tracking behaviour and males more likely to exhibit goal-tracking behaviour. In the present work, we provide evidence that similar patterns emerge in humans. Using a validated eye-tracking procedure in a Pavlovian learning paradigm, we show that women are more frequently classified as sign-trackers and quantitatively show greater sign-tracking behaviour than men in a large human sample. These results support the translational value of precli
