Plasmablastic lymphoma affecting the lung and bone marrow with CD10 expression and t(8;14)(q24;q32) translocation.

Plasmablastic lymphoma is a rare variant of a diffuse, large B-cell lymphoma, which typically presents in the oral cavity in immunocompromised patients. In HIV positive patients, this tumor has a tendency to manifest in extramedullary sites. In this report, we document a rare instance in which this neoplasm besides affecting the bone marrow also involved the lung. In addition, the lymphoma in our case disclosed CD10 positivity on immunohistochemistry and t(8;14)(q24;q34) translocation on cytogenetic analysis, mimicking a Burkitt/atypical Burkitt lymphoma. The problems in diagnosis are discusse

[Histiocytic sarcoma: a case report and review of the literature].

Histiocytic sarcoma is a rare neoplasm, and its aetiology is unknown. It is a malignant proliferation of neoplastic cells showing immunophenotypic and morphologic features similar to tissue histiocytes. The clinical course of histiocytic sarcoma is usually agressive. The signs and symptoms of histiocytic sarcoma are systemic symptoms (fever, weight loss), hepatosplenomegaly, adenopathies, intestinal obstruction, rash and pancytopenia. We present the case of a 75 years old woman, with fever, weight loss, anorexia, fatigue, splenomegaly and pancytopenia. Bone marrow examination showed the diagno

[Myelosarcoma of the proximal jejunum. A rare primary condition of acute myelogenous leukemia].

Myelosarcoma (chloroma) is a rare primary condition in patients with either a myelodysplastic syndrome, or an acute or chronic leukemia. It is an extramedullary neoplasm which does not commonly present with changes in peripheral blood or bone marrow. The rarity and histomorphological similarity to malignant non-Hodgkin lymphoma renders the diagnosis notoriously difficult. Due to its coincidental or secondary manifestation followed by myelogenous leukemia, this tumor needs to be seen as a primary systemic disease. We present a 40 year old man with myelosarcoma of the jejunum and discuss this en

Preleukemic granulocytic sarcomas of the gastrointestinal tract. Report of two cases.

Granulocytic sarcoma, or chloroma, is a tumor composed of immature cells of the myeloid series, which usually occurs as a secondary manifestation of acute myelocytic leukemia. Unique problems in interpretation of these lesions arise when the leukemic picture is absent in peripheral blood and bone marrow. In these cases, granulocytic sarcoma is usually misinterpreted as "reticulum cell sarcoma". Two cases of this neoplasm involving the small intestine and stomach, are reported. Signs of leukemia appeared terminally. The value of cytochemical stains in the differential diagnosis and the possible

Retrospective molecular screening reveals Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum in samples from patients investigated for suspected hematological neoplasms.

The coexistence of hematological neoplasms and Human Visceral Leishmaniasis (HVL) in the same patient may delay appropriate therapeutic intervention due to overlapping clinical and laboratory features. This highlights the need for careful differential diagnosis between these diseases, particularly in endemic regions where they may present similar clinical manifestations. The present study conducted a retrospective analysis of 112 clinical samples collected between 2011 and 2022, from patients referred to assigned suspected hematological neoplasms. Peripheral blood and bone marrow samples were

[8p11 myeloproliferative syndrome].

The 8p11 myeloproliferative syndrome (EMS) is named as stem cell leukemia/lymphoma syndrome, and is an aggressive neoplasm associated with chromosomal translocations involving the fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) tyrosine kinase gene on chromosome 8p11-12. EMS is a syndrome characterized by peripheral blood leucocytosis with eosinophilia, myeloid hyperplasia of bone marrow, and T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma. Clinically, EMS is an aggressive disease with a short chronic phase before rapid transformation into acute leukemia. Its prognosis is poor. The only curative option for

Pure red cell aplasia and myelofibrosis in B-cell neoplasm.

We describe an unusual case of B-cell neoplasm accompanied by pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) and myelofibrosis in a 67-year-old male presenting with severe anaemia. A few unclassified, myeloperoxidase-negative blastoid cells were seen on bone marrow aspiration, and erythroid cell hypoplasia and myelofibrosis on bone marrow biopsy. An autoimmune PRCA was suspected, as serum CH50, C3 and C4 levels were consistently low. Ciclosporin was effective in treating the anaemia, but anaemia returned when the drug was discontinued. Thirteen months later, the patient was admitted with pleural effusion and as

T-cell precursors in mice bearing the Ehrlich ascites tumors.

Mice bearing Ehrlich ascites tumors and challenged with sheep erythrocytes produced fewer plaque-forming cells than did normal mice. At the same time the immunosuppression developed, the number of T lymphocytes in the thymus and spleen were reduced significantly. In the spleen, the number of B lymphocytes remained constant during carcinogenesis, whereas that of the macrophages increased significantly, as compared to the controls. In this paper, we demonstrated that the mechanism responsible for thymus and spleen depletion of theta antigen-bearing cells had to be ascribed to fewer T-lymphocyte

Post-transplant relapse of therapy-related MDS as gastric myeloid sarcoma: Case report and review of literature.

INTRODUCTION: Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) are hematologic neoplasms characterized by morphologic dysplasia and ineffective hematopoiesis in the bone marrow. The only potentially curative therapy is stem cell transplant. However, relapse remains a major challenge and is seen in about 25-40% of cases. Myeloid sarcoma presenting as relapse post allogeneic transplant for myeloid neoplasms is rare. We report the sentinel case of a patient with MDS who relapsed as gastric myeloid sarcoma 1 ½ years after allogeneic stem cell transplant. CASE PRESENTATION: Sixty-nine-year-old male who was diagnose

Cooccurrence of myelodysplastic neoplasm and myeloid sarcoma with background mediastinal germ cell tumor: an autopsy case.

Hematological malignancy (HM) is developed in 2-6% patients with primary mediastinal germ cell tumor (MGCT). Symptoms of HM associated with MGCT usually appear after diagnosis of MGCT. Patients with MGCT underlying HM have poor prognosis. We report an extremely rare autopsy case of simultaneous presentation of MGCT, myelodysplastic neoplasm (MDS) with low blasts, and myeloid sarcoma (MS). A 27-year-old man presented with intermittent fever, general fatigue, and cough. Computed tomography revealed 11 cm mass in anterior mediastinum, hepatosplenomegaly, and gastric, pericholedochal, and mesenter

Venetoclax combined with azacitidine in blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm: a case report and comprehensive review on the current and future treatment.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is an extremely rare hematological malignancy with a highly aggressive behavior and median survival of <2 years. Especially, most BPDCN patients present with extensive and non-specific skin lesions, usually leading to misdiagnosis as a skin disease and delay therapy. As for treatment, most patients with BPDCN experience relapse shortly after treatment with the traditional regimens. The alleviation of skin symptoms reflects the effects of clinical treatments. Herein, we report a case of a 71-year-old man with intermittent and gradually expand

Solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma in the hilar region: A case of minimal marrow involvement in an elderly male.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma (SEP) is a rare plasma cell neoplasm, constituting around 3 % of plasma cell malignancies. SEP typically presents as a single tumor, either in bone or soft tissue, without systemic disease, and is often misdiagnosed due to its nonspecific symptoms. Diagnosis requires biopsy and extensive imaging studies to exclude multiple myeloma and other malignancies. Here, we present a case of SEP located in the hilar region, initially suspected to be a lung malignancy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 70-year-old male with a history of hepatitis C pre

Acute mast cell leukemia without KIT D816V mutation and lack of CD2 and CD25-a case report of rare entity.

Systemic mastocytosis (SM) is a rare hematological neoplasm caused by the excessive proliferation of pathological mast cells that accumulate in the bone marrow (BM) and other extracutaneous organs leading to multi-organ damage and failure. Mast cell leukemia (MCL) is a rare form of systemic mastocytosis, accounting for < 1% of all cases of mastocytosis. MCL usually behaves aggressively with poor responses to current treatment options. Here, we report a diagnostic challenge with the leukemic subtype of MCL with a primary suspicion of pancreatic cancer. A cytomorphological, immunophenotypic, and

Effects of Graves' ophthalmopathy on quality of life.

INTRODUCTION: Hairy cell leukaemia (HCL) is a rare B-cell neoplasm and pulmonary involvement in HCL is exceedingly rare, often leading to diagnostic challenges. Non-resolving pulmonary infiltrates have a broad differential, including infections, malignancies, and autoimmune diseases, requiring a multidisciplinary approach for diagnosis. CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 61-year-old man who presented with fever, dyspnoea, weight loss, and bicytopenia. Initial chest imaging showed bilateral lower lung opacities, and empirical antibiotic therapy was administered. Despite treatment, symptoms p

[Clinical features of blastic plasmacytoid dendritic neoplasm in Chile: report of 10 cases].

BACKGROUND: Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare malignant tumor with a dismal prognosis, with isolated case reports in Chile. The BPDCN can present skin and bone marrow compromise, and its diagnosis is frequently confused with other pathologies. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and immunophenotypical features of BPDCN in the Chilean population. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study from 2013 to 2021 in clinical records of 2 public Chilean referral hospitals, including ten patients, 80% male, with a median age of 66 years (15-81). RESULTS: The most fr

Therapeutic effect of lenalidomide in a novel xenograft mouse model of human blastic NK cell lymphoma/blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm.

PURPOSE: Blastic natural killer (NK) cell lymphoma/blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BNKL) is a rare and aggressive neoplasia characterized by infiltration of blast CD4(+)/CD56(+) cells in the skin, the bone marrow, and peripheral blood. Currently, more efforts are required to better define molecular and biological mechanisms associated with this pathology. To the best of our knowledge, no mouse model recapitulated human BNKL so far. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Primary bone marrow cells from a BNKL patient were injected in nonobese diabetes/severe combined immunodeficient interleukin (IL

A Rare Case of Plasmablastic Myeloma After Renal Transplant.

Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders are a serious complication after solid-organ transplant, with a reported incidence from 2% to 20%. Plasma cell neoplasms in solid-organ transplants represent a rare but increasingly serious complication after solid-organ transplant. We report a case of plasmablastic myeloma, a very rare variant of multiple myeloma with aggressive course and poor prognosis. Few such cases have been reported in the literature in patients after solid-organ transplant. A 41-year-old male patient received a renal transplant from a living unrelated donor (wife) in 2019. A
