Vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) are common in osteoporotic patients, with a frequency projected to increase alongside a growing geriatric population. VCFs often result in debilitating back pain and decreased mobility. Cement augmentation, a minimally invasive surgical technique, is widely used to stabilize fractures and restore vertebral height. Acrylic-based cements and calcium phosphate cements are currently the two primary fill materials utilized for these procedures. Despite their effectiveness, acrylic bone cements and calcium phosphate cements have been associated with various int

OBJECTIVE: Percutaneous vertebroplasty uses the traditional method of bone cement filler to inject bone cement, which solidifies easily. We have established a new method to delay the solidification of bone cement (low-temperature ice saline bone cement) and compared the advantages of the new method and the traditional method of injecting bone cement.
METHODS: Eighty-two patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture were divided into 2 groups by a retrospective study method: 40 patients in group A were treated with the traditional method and 42 patients in group B were treated with

To study the corrosion behavior of cement soil in peat soil, the experiment involves the preparation of peat soil by incorporating humic acid into cohesive soil with a lower organic matter content. Cement soil samples are then prepared by adding cement to the mixture. These samples are subjected to immersion in fulvic acid solution and deionized water to simulate different working environments of cement soil. The experiment considers immersion time as the variable factor. It conducts observations of apparent phenomena, ion leaching tests, and unconfined compression strength tests on the cement

In this paper, supplementary cementitious materials are used as a substitute for cement to decrease carbon dioxide emissions. A by-product of the iron manufacturing industry, ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS), known to improve some performance characteristics of concrete, is used as an effective cement replacement to manufacture mortar samples. Here, the influence of curing conditions on the durability of samples including various amounts of GGBS is investigated experimentally and numerically. Twelve high-strength Portland cement CEM I 52.5 N samples were prepared, in which 0%, 45%,

Background: Calcium Phosphate (CaP) bone cement is gradually replaced by new bone when used as a gap-filler. Details of the re-modelling process are still unclear. Uncertainty is also present as to the possible release of cement particles during the resorption phase causing local soft tissue reactions. The objective of this study was to perform a comprehensive histological investigation of the injectable CaP bone cement used as a void filler in corrective radius osteotomies and adjacent tissue reactions. Methods: Fourteen patients, median age 56 years (18-72), 4 men/10 women, underwent removal

Bisphosphonates represent an established treatment against bone resorption and osseous loss. Local application could help increase bone mineral density while minimizing their systemic use side-effects. Bone cement, used on a large scale in orthopedic surgery and a historically successful drug carrier, could represent an effective scaffold. The aim of this review was to investigate the alterations produced on the cement's structure and properties by this mixture, as well as its antiosteoporotic and antitumor effect. After a thorough research of articles, title screening and duplicate removal we

In some cases of vertebroplasty for adjacent fractures, we observed a cement bridging phenomenon, in which the injected cement flowed from the newly fractured vertebra to the previously cement-augmented vertebra through the space between the abutting anterior longitudinal ligament and the vertebral column. The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate this phenomenon. From January 2012 to December 2014, patients who sustained new-onset adjacent vertebral compression fracture and who were again treated with vertebroplasty were enrolled. We divided the patients into two groups, the

Vertebral compression fractures remain an important cause of pain and debility. Intractable pain may be approached with vertebral kyphoplasty. We herein present a case of symptomatic pulmonary cement embolism following kyphoplasty. Discovery of a paravertebral cement venogram at the time of this procedure prompted a case series review of our institutional experience with kyphoplasty. We found that cement embolization, whether symptomatic or discovered incidentally, was universally associated with a cement venogram at the site of vertebroplasty. We propose that a cement venogram be viewed as a
