New Insights into the Relationship Between Microplastics and Diabetes from the Perspective of the Gut-Liver Axis and Macrophage Regulation.

Microplastics (MPs) are increasingly recognized as a global environmental threat. Emerging evidence suggests they may have metabolic consequences. In this review, we synthesize current findings from animal and in vitro studies to propose a mechanistic framework linking MP exposure to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This framework is uniquely centered on the gut-liver axis and macrophage-centric immune networks. We systematically delineate evidence suggesting that MPs can compromise intestinal barrier integrity, instigate gut dysbiosis, and promote pro-inflammatory M1 polarization of macrophag

Brain-wide activity mapping reveals the somatosensory cortex as a sex-specific regulator of hedonic feeding.

Palatable food consumption engages reward circuitry and promotes neuroadaptations that contribute to overeating and obesity. While mesolimbic dopamine pathways are central to hedonic feeding models, the contribution of sensory cortical systems remains poorly understood. Here, we performed brain-wide activity mapping using Targeted Recombination in Active Populations (TRAP) and network analysis to define the distributed neural consequences of short-term high-fat diet (HFD) exposure in male and female mice. HFD increased caloric intake in both sexes, with females consuming significantly more tha

Analyzing gaze and hand movement patterns in leader-follower interactions during a time-continuous cooperative manipulation task.

In daily life, people often interact by taking on leader and follower roles. Unlike laboratory experiments, these interactions unfold naturally and continuously. Although it is well established that gaze typically precedes object manipulation, much less is known about how gaze-hand patterns evolve in interactive settings where one person must take the other's actions into account. Here, we examine predictive, planning-related behavior in a two-player tabletop game called "do-undo." Participants alternated as Leader and Follower. The Leader performed simple pick-and-place actions to alter the a

TempoCross: instance-aware sparse representation for multimodal temporal fusion in 3D detection.

With rising performance demands for autonomous driving perception systems, bird's-eye-view (BEV) perception that combines heterogeneous sensor data and temporal information has become a key research focus. Recent studies have advanced either multimodal temporal detection through BEV-level feature aggregation or sparse object-centric temporal modeling. However, integrating these two directions while preserving modality-specific temporal states remains less explored for LiDAR-camera detection. In this work, we present TempoCross, a 3D detection method based on instance-aware sparse representatio

Study protocol: Feasibility and acceptability of culturally adapted CBT for anxiety, depression, and stigma in Chinese IBD patients.

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is associated with high anxiety, depression, and stigma in Chinese populations, where Western-centric cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) often fails to align with Confucian values of familial interdependence. This protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of a Confucianism-adapted CBT (CA-CBT) for Chinese IBD patients. METHODS/DESIGN: Forty IBD patients from a single tertiary center in China via consecutive inpatient wards and outpatient clinics recruitment will

Cross-cancer transcriptomic integration identifies a core immune-signaling network in hormone-driven malignancies.

Hormone-dependent malignancies, including breast, ovarian, thyroid, and prostate cancers, are driven by dysregulated endocrine signaling but exhibit marked heterogeneity in molecular architecture and therapeutic response. Whether these cancers share conserved transcriptional programs that transcend tissue-of-origin remains incompletely understood. In this study, we applied a systematic, direction-aware transcriptomic framework to identify shared gene expression signatures across hormone-driven malignancies using RNA-sequencing data with matched non-malignant controls. Differential expression a

Node properties of biomarkers within the protein-protein interaction network derived from breast cancer-associated genes.

Analyzing the network properties of cancer biomarkers within protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks is valuable for discovering novel biomarker candidates. Therefore, we constructed PPI networks using breast cancer (BC)-associated gene sets and performed 12 distinct centrality analyses to characterize the topological features of clinically validated biomarkers. Our reference set of biomarkers comprised genes from five clinical genetic testing panels-MammaPrint, Oncotype DX, PAM50, EndoPredict, and the BC Index-that were also present in the STRING database. The PPI networks were constructed

PROs vs clinician-reported adverse events in a large clinical trial: findings from the phase 3 POLARIX study.

AbstractDiffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) poses a challenge in hematology given its varied symptoms, and the complex interplay between disease and treatment effects on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The phase 3 POLARIX study demonstrated superior progression-free survival and a similar safety profile with polatuzumab vedotin plus rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and prednisone (Pola-R-CHP) vs R-CHOP (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone) in patients with previously untreated DLBCL. Here, we evaluate HRQoL through patient-reported outcome (

Integrative transcriptomic- neuroimaging analysis reveals polygenic correlates of interhemispheric functional decoupling in ischemic stroke.

BACKGROUND: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has revealed abnormal brain activity patterns in stroke patients, yet the genetic correlates underlying functional homotopy - defined as synchronized spontaneous activity between bilateral homologous brain regions - remain poorly characterized. This study investigates the genetic basis of voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC) abnormalities in stroke patients. METHODS: We analyzed resting-state fMRI data from 50 stroke patients and 50 healthy controls (HC) to quantify VMHC. Spatial transcriptome-neuroimaging correlations were esta

Behavioral and spectral electroencephalographic biomarkers of epileptogenesis, disease progression, and drug resistance in a longitudinal lithium-pilocarpine model of temporal lobe epilepsy.

Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is linked to progressive alterations in brain network dynamics, leading to behavioral comorbidities and emergence of drug resistance; yet the underlying mechanistic and synaptic substrates remain incompletely understood. Here, we performed longitudinal phase-specific characterization of network dysfunction in TLE employing a lithium-pilocarpine-induced model in 7-week male Wistar rats. We integrated behavioral and electroencephalographic (EEG) analyses at five timepoints: baseline, acute, latent, chronic phases, and after assessment of drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE)

A Delphi consensus on integrating novel therapies into the management of generalized myasthenia gravis.

BACKGROUND: The treatment landscape for myasthenia gravis (MG) has evolved with the introduction of novel therapies. An international consensus on patient selection criteria and optimal time to initiate these therapies could improve clinical outcomes and reduce delays for likely beneficiaries. OBJECTIVE: This Delphi consensus was undertaken by MG specialists from selected European countries to explore gaps in the application of national guidelines and elicit expert opinion in practice. DESIGN: A mixed-method approach was used; qualitative and quantitative study phases were combined to explor

Through deaf eyes: factors influencing suicidal behavior among deaf adults.

Deaf people are at higher suicide risk, yet little is known about the factors that contribute to this elevated risk, particularly in Australia. This research explored factors which deaf Australian adults perceived to influence their suicidal behavior. A parallel multi-methods sequential design study using a strengths-based deaf-centric approach was conducted. This incorporated qualitative interviews with deaf sign language users who reported adverse mental health experiences and a national cross-sectional survey of deaf adults. Both instruments included questions about perceived influences on

Neutrophils and NETosis in polycystic ovary syndrome: unraveling the immuno-metabolic thromboinflammatory axis.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), traditionally defined by its endocrine and reproductive hallmarks-hyperandrogenism, oligo-anovulation, and polycystic ovarian morphology-is increasingly viewed as a complex disorder associated with chronic low-grade immuno-metabolic inflammation. Emerging evidence suggests that neutrophils, the most abundant innate immune cells, may play a contributory role in linking metabolic stress, inflammatory signaling, and vascular dysfunction in PCOS. In women with PCOS, hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance, and adipose-derived inflammatory cues have been associated wi

Exploring factors impacting Hispanic/Latinx individuals' response to a type 2 diabetes digital storytelling intervention.

BACKGROUND: Hispanic/Latinx individuals have high prevalence of type 2 diabetes and its complications yet often face barriers in accessing diabetes prevention and self-management interventions. One possible approach is to implement digital storytelling interventions, which involve narrative-driven videos made by individuals who have lived experience with particular conditions or illnesses. These stories can inspire viewers with similar life experiences to change behaviors or attitudes. Little is known about which characteristics influence how individuals respond to digital storytelling interve
