Bile acids may damage the gastric mucosa, and they are cocarcinogenic in experimental colonic and gastric cancer. Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and chronic atrophic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia (CAGIM) are associated with gastric carcinoma.
