Central areolar chorodial atrophy was first classified as a hereditary disease by Sorsby in 1935. The mode of inheritance can be both autosomal recessive and autosomal dominant. The authors present a case with autosomal dominant inheritance affecting three generations.

The histiopathological features of a choroid plexus papilloma in a 27-year-old male are described. The tumor displayed marked oncocytic transformation and glial differentiation of the epithelium in areas in which there was also marked sclerosis of the fibrovascular cores. Non-membrane-bound bodies of intermediate filaments characterized ultrastructurally the cells with glial differentiation.

Calcification in the stroma of adult telencephalic choroid plexus was studied of 20 postmortem brains and one biopsy by light microscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy and compared with calcification in psammoma bodies in normal arachnoid, five spinal meningiomas and in calcospherites of six pineal glands. Isolated perfused choroid plexus preparations from sheep were used to study the effects of low concentrations of magnesium in the perfusion fluid on the transfer of magnesium into choroid plexus fluid (CPF). Choroid plexus papillomas are usually easily distinguishable from papillary ependymomas by their delicate fibrovascular stroma and their cytologic similarity to normal choroid plexus epithelium. Exceptionally, however, examples are met which give rise to diagnostic difficulty. We therefore tested 22 choroid plexus papillomas for the presence of glial fibrillary acidic (GFA) protein using the immunoperoxidase technique. An adult male, domestic short-haired cat with generalized retinal atrophy was found to have a 60-fold increase in plasma ornithine and ornithinuria. Ornithine-8-aminotransferase activity was undetectable in its tissues and in its cultured skin fibroblasts. This feline condition is thus analogous to gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina in humans.

The records of 10 patients with cavernous choroidal hemangiomas were reviewed. Biomicroscopic findings were typical in all cases. Indocyanine green infrared angiography was performed on 8 patients. It showed typical and specific findings. Argon laser photocoagulation of the tumor was carried out in 6 cases with associated macular serous retinal detachment. Lateral ventricular choroid plexus lipomas are frequently associated with lipomas of the corpus callosum. Choroid plexus lipomas may be continuous with the midline lesion or discrete, and they may be bilaterally symmetrical of asymmetrical. The case of a 9-month-old infant is presented as an example.

In the study of 38 cases of leukemia, neoplastic infiltration of the brain was the most frequent lesion, occuring in 70,5%, compared to 48,5% for hemorrhage. The leptomeninges were the most frequent site of leukemic infiltration followed by the choroid plexus (57,8%) and the nervous tissue (50%).
