A rare case of for synchronous advanced cancer of ascending colon and urinary bladder with simultaneous laparoscopic resection: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Advances in diagnostic techniques have resulted in an increase in the diagnosis of numerous patients with multiple primary cancers. However, the diagnosis of synchronous primary colorectal cancer and bladder cancer remains rare. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 69-year-old man diagnosed with synchronous advanced cancer of the ascending colon and urinary bladder underwent simultaneous laparoscopic resection. His postoperative course was similar to that of routine colorectal cancer. The patient refused adjuvant therapy. The patient was diagnosed as having recurrence of bladder cancer 3 mon

[A case of poorly-differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma of the ascending colon with multiple liver metastases successfully treated with cisplatin and irinotecan].

A 74-year-old woman diagnosed with poorly-differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma originating from the ascending colon was referred to our hospital. She had felt anorexia, abdominal pains and her (ECOG) performance status was 3. Her CT scan showed that some abdominal lymph nodes were swelling and that there were many metastatic lesions occupying most of the liver. We started chemotherapy with cisplatin and irinotecan according to a regimen for small cell lung cancer. Considering her poor PS, both of the drugs were administered at 30mg/m² twice 4 weeks in the first course of chemotherapy. Her a

[A case of ascending colon cancer successfully treated for synchronous liver metastases with mFOLFOX6 after a resection of the primary tumor].

We report a case of ascending colon cancer successfully treated for synchronous liver metastases with mFOLFOX6 after a resection of the primary tumor. A 79-year-old woman was diagnosed as having an ascending colon cancer with synchronous liver metastases. After right hemicolectomy, she was treated with mFOLFOX6. A partial response was observed after the fifth course and CEA decreased to a normal range (8 ng/mL). A complete response was observed after the ninth course and the treatment finished at the twelfth course. Sequentially, she was treated with UFT/LV/PSK after three courses of FOLFIRI r

Cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix: an incidental perioperatory finding in a patient with adenocarcinoma of the ascending and sigmoid colon: case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Primary adenocarcinomas of the appendix are uncommon, constituting 1% of all colorectal malignancies. Appendiceal malignancies often present atypically, thus creating diagnostic challenges. Although there are many pathology reports of primary cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix, only a limited number of cases have appeared in the radiological or surgical literature. We present a unique case of primary cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix occurring concurrently with adenocarcinoma of the colon, and overview the clinical and therapeutic difficulties posed by this rare entity. CASE PRES

The effect of a probiotic drink with Lactobacillus plantarum 299v on the bacterial composition in faeces and mucosal biopsies of rectum and ascending colon.

BACKGROUND: Studies on probiotics mainly base their results on faecal samples, which may not represent the situation in the mucosa of distal and proximal colon. AIM: In a placebo-controlled study, to assess the effect of Lactobacillus plantarum 299v on the bacterial composition of faecal vs. mucosal samples. METHODS: Twenty-nine patients undergoing colonoscopic examination for polyps consumed a twice-daily drink with or without L. plantarum 299v (10(11) CFU/day) for 2 weeks. Faecal samples were collected before and after consumption. During colonoscopy, biopsies were collected from the ascen

Small cell undifferentiated carcinoma of the ascending colon with rapid enlargement after resection: report of a case and review of the literature.

Although adenocarcinoma represents the vast majority of neoplasms of the large intestine, small cell undifferentiated carcinoma (SCUC) also arises from the colorectum. SCUC of the colorectum is highly malignant and shares the similarities in histologic characteristics, behavior, and histochemistry with SCUC of the lung. We report herein a case of SCUC in the ascending colon with rapid enlargement after resection. A 70-year-old male, who presented to a nearby physician with chief complaints of pain in the right lower quadrant, was referred to our hospital. We found a tumor mass that was approxi

Colic motor complex of the cecum and proximal loop of the ascending colon observed in an experimental cow with large intestinal obstruction.

Myoelectric activity of the cecum and proximal loop of the ascending colon (PLAC) and the effect of xylazine on motility of this intestinal segment in an experimental cow with large intestinal obstruction are described and compared with the normal motility pattern. During obstruction, three major observations were made in the prestenotic area. (i) Mean spike duration, overall duration of spiking activity (expressed as percentage of total recording time), number of spikes propagated from the cecum towards the obstruction site, and velocity of propagated spikes were substantially increased. (ii)

Gardnerella vaginalis promotes group B Streptococcus vaginal colonization, enabling ascending uteroplacental infection in pregnant mice.

BACKGROUND: Group B Streptococcus is a common vaginal bacterium and the leading cause of invasive fetoplacental infections. Group B Streptococcus in the vagina can invade through the cervix to cause ascending uteroplacental infections or can be transmitted to the neonate during vaginal delivery. Some studies have found that women with a "dysbiotic" polymicrobial or Lactobacillus-depleted vaginal microbiota are more likely to harbor group B Streptococcus. Gardnerella vaginalis is often the most abundant bacteria in the vaginas of women with dysbiosis, while being detected at lower levels in mos

The effects of ischemia and reperfusion on mucosal respiratory function, adenosine triphosphate, electrolyte, and water content in the ascending colon of ponies.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of ischemia and reperfusion on the biochemical integrity of equine colonic mucosa to assess the relative roles of ischemic- and reperfusion-induced damage. STUDY DESIGN: Two hours of no-flow ischemia experimentally induced by 720 degrees counterclockwise ascending colon volvulus followed by 2 hours reperfusion after derotation. ANIMALS: Ten ponies. METHODS: Ascending colon biopsies were obtained every hour for measurement of mucosal adenosine triphosphate (ATP), water, sodium, and potassium content. Additional samples were homo

FDG PET/CT Combined With 3D CT Reconstruction in Diagnosing Inflammatory Granuloma Secondary to Fish Bone Perforation of the Ascending Colon.

A 71-year-old woman with a 5-week history of right-sided abdominal pain was initially suspected of hepatobiliary disorders. Upper abdominal ultrasound and MRI revealed unremarkable hepatobiliary findings. Although no hepatobiliary lesions were identified, MRI incidentally detected an ascending colon mass highly suspicious for malignancy. The patient underwent FDG PET/CT for differential diagnosis and preoperative staging. PET/CT with 3D CT reconstruction demonstrated a linear hyperdense foreign body within the ascending colon wall, causing focal bowel wall thickening with intense FDG avidity.

A case report: Diagnosis of early stage ascending colon adenocarcinoma due to concomitant lymphoma presented by ileocaecal intussusception and literature review.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: This case report describes a rare occurrence of ileocecal malignant lymphoma combined with adenocarcinoma, due to the low incidence rate of colonic malignant lymphoma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 73-year-old female patient presented with abdominal pain and was diagnosed with "acute intussusception with intestinal obstruction" in the emergency department of our hospital. Due to the occurrence of intestinal obstruction the operation was performed, and postoperative pathology revealed a combination of ileocecal DLBCL and ascending colon adenocarcinoma at stage pT1N0M0. Long-term Survival after Treatment of Synchronous Isolated Right External Iliac Lymph Node Metastasis from Ascending Colon Cancer: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Synchronous isolated external iliac lymph node metastasis of ascending colon cancer is extremely rare, and its treatment strategy has not been established. In this report, we present a case of long-term survival after surgical resection and adjuvant chemotherapy for ascending colon cancer with synchronous isolated right external iliac lymph node metastasis. CLINICAL CASE: A 65-year-old woman with anorexia and anemia was referred to our hospital. Colonoscopy and computed tomography revealed a three-quarter circumferential type 2 tumor from the cecum to the ascending colon, along wi

A Case of Robot-Assisted Ileocecal Resection for Ascending Colon Cancer with Ileocolic Vein Flowing into the Jejunal Vein: Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Anatomical vascular variations are frequently observed in the right colon. The ileocolic vein (ICV) typically drains directly into the superior mesenteric vein (SMV). When vascular anomalies are present, surgical procedures often differ from standard techniques, which frequently increases the difficulty of the operation. Therefore, preoperative confirmation of vascular variations is essential. Here, we present a case of ascending colon cancer in which a rare variation in the ICV was diagnosed preoperatively. CASE PRESENTATION: An 84-year-old woman visited her physician complaini

Case Report: Synchronous aspirin-induced ileal ulcer and ascending colon adenocarcinoma: diagnostic challenges and pathophysiological insights from an incidental intraoperative finding.

Synchronous gastrointestinal lesions are rare, especially when colon cancer is complicated by non-specific ileal ulcers. This article presents the case of a 70-year-old man who was admitted to the hospital with a colonic space-occupying lesion detected during the physical examination. An unexpected intraoperative finding revealed a synchronous ileal lesion with signs suggestive of malignancy. The patient had no history of inflammatory bowel disease and was on regular low-dose aspirin (100 mg/d) for a long time. Colonoscopy showed a mass in the ascending colon, and biopsy confirmed the diagnosi

Hybrid endoscopic stricturotomy and balloon dilation of ascending colon stricture with cecal fecaliths in Crohn's disease guided by preprocedural intestinal ultrasound.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Endotherapy for Crohn's disease (CD) strictures has evolved as a minimally invasive alternative to surgery. Hybrid techniques combining endoscopic stricturotomy (ES) and balloon dilation (EBD) can improve outcomes. Intestinal ultrasound (IUS) has emerged as a point-of-care tool for stricture assessment. We present a case using preprocedural IUS-guided hybrid ES and EBD to manage an ascending colon stricture with proximal fecaliths in CD. METHODS: A 47-year-old man with ileocolonic CD (Montreal classification A2, L3, B2) receiving adalimumab and azathioprine presented with
