Propagating wellness: understanding the communication mechanisms of yoga and Wuqinxi (five animal frolics) via Lasswell's 5W framework.

Mind-body practices are increasingly used in public health promotion and cross-cultural communication, yet comparative evidence on how different practices are disseminated remains limited. This study used a sequential mixed-methods design to compare yoga, a mature transnational practice, with Wuqinxi (Five Animal Frolics), a traditional Chinese practice that has also gained international recognition but remains more regionally concentrated in its grassroots practice. Semi-structured interviews with yoga studio managers, a Wuqinxi inheritor, and practitioners informed questionnaire development

Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Indonesian version of the operating room educational environment measure with Indonesian residents.

BACKGROUND: Assessing residents' perceptions of the operating room (OR) educational environment is critical for shaping competencies in surgical training and influencing learning outcomes, professional development, and patient safety. Evaluation of these perceptions provides evidence of the effectiveness of teaching, supervision, and teamwork in supporting learning in the OR and helps educators identify areas for improvement in residency programs. The Operating Room Educational Environment Measure (OREEM) is an instrument developed to evaluate learning conditions in the OR. In this study, we a

End-of-life care among Koreans in critical care and community-dwelling Korean Americans: A cross-cultural scoping review.

OBJECTIVE: End-of-life (EOL) care for critically ill individuals is shaped by socioeconomic, legal, and cultural factors for Koreans in South Korea and Korean Americans (KA) in the United States. This scoping review thematically synthesized critical care literature from Korea and community-based literature involving KAs to inform culturally tailored EOL and palliative care research and practice. METHODS: Following the updated JBI scoping review guidance, we reviewed English and Korean articles across seven databases. Due to the lack of critical care studies involving KAs, the scope of U.S. st

Assessment of cross-cultural adaptations and patient-reported outcome measures relevant to shoulder disorders in Turkish: A systematic review using the COSMIN methodology.

BACKGROUND: There are many shoulder assessment outcome measures in the literature that have been studied for validity and reliability. However, there is no study examining the Turkish-adapted patient outcome measures (PROMs) on the shoulder according to the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) checklist. In addition, there is a small number of studies that carry out this examination on the shoulder internationally. Determining the most appropriate questionnaires for clinical use will also be an important guide in patient evaluation by filling t

Social connection and its prospective association with adolescent internalising and externalising symptoms: an exploratory cross-country study using retrospective harmonisation.

BACKGROUND: Social connection factors play a key role for young people's mental health. It is important to understand how their influence may vary across contexts. We investigated structural (e.g. household size), functional (e.g. social support) and quality (e.g. feeling close) social connection factors in relation to adolescent internalising and externalising symptoms, comparing two countries Brazil and the United Kingdom (UK). METHODS: We pooled data from the UK Millennium Cohort Study (MCS) and the Brazilian High Risk Cohort Study (BHRCS). We included 12 social connection variables, ident

A cross-cultural examination of adverse childhood experiences in low-and middle-income countries and their relation with adolescent educational aspirations.

BACKGROUND: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events that occur before the age of 18. Researchers have examined the negative associations between adversity and adolescent and adult outcomes, such as education and physical health. However, research on ACEs, and their association with other outcomes in non-western contexts is sparse. OBJECTIVE: The present study aims to increase our understanding of the prevalence of ACEs - and their association with educational aspirations - in low- and middle-income country contexts. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: We utilize data from

Cross-cultural adaptation and validation for central sensitization inventory: based on Chinese patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty for knee osteoarthritis.

BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to develop a simplified Chinese version of the central sensitization inventory (CSI-CV) and to evaluate its reliability and validity. METHODS: The CSI-CV was developed through a process involving the translation and back translation of the original CSI. Subsequently, experts reviewed and revised the content of the items to ensure their appropriateness. A total of 325 patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA), who were scheduled to undergo total knee arthroplasty (TKA), completed the CSI-CV at a prominent orthopedic center in Xi'an, China. Afterward, a random

The eleven-item Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST-11): Cross-cultural psychometric evaluation across 42 countries.

The Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) is an instrument to screen substance-use-related health risks. However, little is known whether the ASSIST could be further shortened while remaining psychometrically sound across different countries, languages, gender identities, and sexual-orientation-based groups. The study aimed to validate a shortened 11-item ASSIST (ASSIST-11). Using the International Sex Survey data, 82,243 participants (M age = 32.39 years) across 42 countries and 26 languages completed questions from the ASSIST-11 regarding gender identity, sexual
