Both benign and malignant conditions affecting prostate gland are very common in elderly men. A clinical controlled study is presented for the treatment of condylomata acuminata with cryotherapy in 64 patients. Condylomata resolved in 83% within 4 weeks and 96% after 6 weeks by using cryotherapy. The results were significantly better compared with the control group of 70 patients (13% and 45% after 4 weeks and 6 weeks, respectively). Other therapeutic modalities are reviewed. Cryotherapy is an elegant and effective method for the treatment of condylomata acuminata without discomfort to the patient.

A new cryoprobe for cryocoagulation of the ciliary body was designed, which is cooled by nitrogen and permits defined coagulation of the ciliary body over 120 degrees. The thermodynamic profile of this probe was investigated in a mathematical model and in practical measurements, defining the conditions for an optimum heat transfer.

A 5-year-old white girl had phthiriasis palpebrarum of both upper eyelids. Excellent cooperation by the patient permitted the destruction of adult lice and the nits by cryoapplication under the slit lamp. Cryotherapy seems to be a promising method of treating phthiriasis palpebrarum in a single office visit.
