Random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) was used for discrimination between 46 Brucella strains and 14 representatives of the alpha-2 and alpha-1 subgroups of Proteobacteria. To evaluate a relatively quick and exact method for Brucella identification, the authors specified the most suitable conditions for RAPD amplification of Brucella DNA with two 10-mer primers, containing lower and higher percentages of G and C. We present cytogenetic and DNA fingerprint analysis on 13 new cases of pediatric germ cell tumors; we analyze further four cases we have reported previously. The patients ranged in age from 23 weeks gestation to 16 years. Twenty-four isolates of Actinobacillus seminis were typed by PCR ribotyping, repetitive extragenic palindromic element (REP)-based PCR, and enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC)-based PCR. Five types were distinguished by REP-PCR, and nine types were distinguished by ERIC-PCR. PCR ribotyping produced the simplest pattern and could be useful for identification of A. seminis and for its differentiation from related species. REP- and ERIC-PCR could be used for strain differentiation in epidemiological studies of A. seminis.

Microhaplotypes (MHs) consisting of multiple SNPs and indels on short stretches of DNA are new and interesting loci for forensic genetic investigations.
