A former hockey player with knee and calf pain.

A 37-year-old man presented with severe pain in his left knee and calf. He had no other joint pain, fever, chills, or dysuria. He had previously gone to another hospital, where x-rays of the knees and legs reportedly showed inflammation and arthritis. He had been given oxycodone-acetaminophen, but the pain continued.

Myelopathy in Reiter's disease.

A 21-year-old male presented with fevers, polyarthritis, dysuria and rash. Neurologic examination indicated myelopathic changes below the T12 spinal cord level. These changes were present during the acute course of his illness but were not evident after 8 weeks of treatment. We are unaware of reports of myelopathy associated with Reiter's disease.

Foreign body in lower urinary tract.

A forty-four-year-old white man had a stout rubber cable extruding 2 cm. from the external urethral meatus. He had introduced an 82-cm. rubber cable via his urethra into his bladder to assist in clearing dysuria and hematuria. Suprapublic removal of the rubber cable was accomplished, and his postoperative course was benign.

Acute gonococcal urethritis.

Gonococcal urethritis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by obligate gram-negative diplococci, Neisseria gonorrhoeae. In a patient complaining of dysuria and urethral discharge, the diagnosis is typically confirmed by identifying the bacteria in mucosal secretions. Inadequately treated or untreated cases are at a risk of developing epididymo-orchitis, prostatitis and serious complications like disseminated gonococcal infection, meningitis, and endocarditis.

Primary malignant lymphoma of the bladder. A case report and review of the literature.

Primary malignant lymphoma of the bladder is unusual. We report a case of primary malignant lymphoma arising in the urinary bladder. A 54-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with the chief complaint of dysuria, on May 26, 1995. Examination of IVP, ultrasonography, cystoscopy suggested a non-papillary bladder tumour. Diagnosis was established by histological examination.

[Traumatically caused prolapse of the vaginal mucosa and retroflexion of the bladder in the bitch].

Four years after having been heavily injured in the perineal region by a firearm the presented bitch showed dysuria and signs of intense irritation. Clinical and radiological examinations revealed the fact of a partial loss of the vaginal channel and supporting tissues, consequently leading to a retroflexion of the bladder into the extroverted part of the vagina. The bitch recovered completely after a plastic operation.

Carcinosarcoma in a bladder diverticulum.

A 47-year-old man presented with hematuria and dysuria. He was found to have a carcinosarcoma originating from a bladder diverticulum. He underwent a partial cystectomy and received postoperative chemotherapy. One year later, he presented with a large local recurrence and died shortly afterward. We believe this to be the second case of a carcinosarcoma originating in a bladder diverticulum.

Methemoglobinemia is a rare blood disorder characterized by the oxidation of heme iron from ferrous (Fe2+) to ferric (Fe3+) state, which increases oxygen affinity and impairs oxygen release to the tissue causing hypoxia. It can be congenital or acquired; however, most cases are acquired and caused by exogenous substances such as medications, chemicals, and environmental substances. [Panavir in combined treatment of chronic cystitis with hyperplastic changes in urinary bladder mucosa].

Human papilloma virus was detected by polymerase chain reaction in patients suffering from chronic cystitis with hyperplastic changes in urinary bladder mucosa. In most of the examinees (90%) it was HPV of highly oncogenic type 16. Panavir added to combined treatment of such patients produced a significant positive result in long-term period. Improvement was observed both in subjective assessment and the absence of dysuria episodes.

Duplicated Müllerian remnant in a 6-year-old boy.

We report a 6-year-old boy with large duplicated müllerian duct remnant who presented with recurrent urinary tract infections and dysuria. His prior urological problems included proximal hypospadias (repaired), urachal cyst, and a unilateral undescended testis. Imaging evaluation included US, MRI, and cystoscopy. Laparoscopic resection was performed via a retrovesical approach. The patient was free of symptoms after surgery.

Vulvovaginitis in the prepubertal child may present with itch, irritation, pain, dysuria or discharge as a result of poor hygiene, contact irritants, sexual abuse or skin disease involving the genital area. Common infectious causes include threadworms, group A beta-haemolytic streptococci and Haemophilus influenzae. A full history and examination are essential. Investigations may include swabs, midstream urine, biopsy, ultrasound and examination under anaesthesia.
