Smooth pursuit eye movements, saccades and eye blinks were electrooculographically recorded from 26 healthy subjects of different age and 35 patients with presumptive presenile onset dementia (mean age 54), who had to track a light spot which oscillated with different speeds. We report an electro-oculographic study (EOG) of upbeat nystagmus and neuroradiological correlations in 4 patients and neuropathological findings in 1 patient. In treatment of Meniére's disease, installations of gentamicin are continued until there are signs of disturbance of vestibular or cochlear function. An analysis of 64 patients with congenital stationary night blindness showed that all had essentially normal fundi. In unilateral injuries, the tap to the eye by a penetrating foreign body is sufficient to depress the electro-oculogram (EOG). Total recovery is time-consuming. During the recovery period, complications such as siderosis and detachment may arise, acting with predilection on the light-sensitive EOG component. Blunt traumata and possibly surgical opening of the eyeball predominantly decrease the light-insensitive component of the EOG.

Oculographic examinations were conducted in 24 cases of Arnold-Chiari malformation. Disorders in vertical eye movements with a spontaneous vertical nystagmus were frequently observed, together with disturbances in visual tracking. There was no case of paralysis of lateral eye movements, but an adduction internuclear ophthalmoplegia might be present. Though these anomalies are not specific, they differ for example from those usually observed in multiple sclerosis, which is often a differential diagnosis in such cases. Oculography therefore may be of particular value.

Informative content of different methods of labyrinthine fistulas (LF) diagnosis was assessed in 118 patients suffering from otitis media purulenta chronica (OMPC) with cholesteatoma which ran for 20 years and longer in 82.2% patients, 83.9% had fistula symptom. Experimental and clinical data indicate that the cerebellum is involved in the pathophysiology of advanced stages of essential tremor (ET). The aim of this study was to determine whether a dysfunction also affects cerebellar structures involved in eye movement control. Eye movements of 14 patients with ET and 11 age-matched control subjects were recorded using the scleral search-coil technique. Vestibular function was assessed by electro-oculography. Eight ET patients had clinical evidence of intention tremor (ET(IT)); six had a predominantly postural tremor (ET(PT)) without intention tremor.
