A cross-sectional province-wide survey study of 3,978 British Columbia (BC) nurses was conducted to explore the mental health state of the nursing workforce in BC. About one third of nurses reported depression and anxiety; about half reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and at least one third reported high levels of one or more dimensions of burnout. Mental health problems were about 1.5 to 3 times more prevalent among BC nurses compared to their peers nationally. Improving nurses' mental health requires multi-factorial and multi-level efforts. The past 2 decades have witnessed several studies and reviews reporting on the development, implementation, and evaluation of nurse-based models of cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention, which are contributing to the growing evidence base of their effectiveness. Teams comprising healthcare professionals with expertise in nursing, dietetics, physical activity, and behavior skills have shown high levels of success in preventive efforts, particularly in high-risk and vulnerable populations. Used appropriately, collaborative, team-based, nurse-led models have the potential to effect positive cha

Home healthcare agencies, like other healthcare organizations, continue to face challenges with nurse burnout. Improved well-being has been shown to reduce burnout and support nurse retention. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to enhance nurse well-being through the introduction of a structured well-being bundle. The bundle included three low-cost, evidence-based strategies: breathing exercises, gratitude training, and a self-selected spiritual reading or practice. Sixteen home health nurses participated in this 6-week pre- and post-intervention project. The World Health Orga

BACKGROUND: According to the 2020-2021 National Survey of Children's Health, 23.3% of children and adolescents met criteria for one or more mental, emotional, developmental, or behavioral problems. However, the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and post traumatic stress disorder have risen dramatically since the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to an increase in suicidal ideations, completed suicides, and pediatric psychiatric hospitalizations. There is a critical need for high quality mental healthcare treatments, including psychoeducation. Inpatient psychiatric nurses are well positioned to lead

BACKGROUND: More than two decades after the inception of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, confusion persists about the competencies that DNP-prepared nurses bring to practice. Despite growth in programs nationwide, DNP projects often lack methodological rigor, resulting in variable outcomes and unclear stakeholder value.
PURPOSE: To ensure consistency, programs must adopt a competency-based approach that prepares nurses to lead evidence-based practice/quality improvement, program evaluation, and policy analysis initiatives.
METHODS: The Mountain Model provides a clear framework a

BACKGROUND: Existing systematic reviews and meta-analyses have reported inconsistent findings regarding the effects of gamified interventions on clinical reasoning-related cognitive skills in nursing education. In addition, prior meta-analyses were based on a limited number of studies with small, pooled sample sizes, highlighting the need for a more focused and comprehensive synthesis of evidence on this outcome.
OBJECTIVES: To systematically evaluate the effects of gamified interventions on clinical reasoning-related cognitive skills, knowledge, teamwork skills, and problem-solving skills in

Weight gain and body composition changes are common during the first year after breast cancer diagnosis. Women who are overweight or obese at the time of diagnosis or who gain weight following diagnosis are at higher risk for adverse clinical outcomes. Unhealthy weight conditions, compounded or caused by weight gain after diagnosis, are a considerable challenge for women with breast cancer during and after treatment. Despite the prevalence of weight gain in women with breast cancer as well as its adverse effects, little research has examined preventive and therapeutic interventions targeting r

Following a radical prostatectomy in the authors' institution, patients are sent home with an indwelling urinary catheter. Nurses on the urology unit questioned the standard practice of teaching patients to clean their urinary drainage bags daily with a vinegar solution after discharge and the impact, if any, in reducing catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI). Using the Mayo Clinic Nursing Framework for Evidence-Based Decision Making (EBDM), the literature was searched and evaluated, and the evidence was compared to current practice. Findings from this literature review did not s

Owing to the coronavirus disease pandemic, nursing education materials were developed for online use. However, as nursing involves working with human beings, the experience of face-to-face learning is important. This study investigated the learning satisfaction and anxiety experienced by nursing students based on their learning methods, expectations, and concerns about transitioning entirely to face-to-face learning. Using a mixed-methods design, 120 and 14 third- and fourth-year nursing students in Korea completed an online survey and individual interviews, respectively. Data were collected f
