Regioselective Copper-Catalyzed Acylsilylation of Allenes Using Acyl Fluorides.

We report the copper-catalyzed acylsilylation of allenes using acyl fluorides. Under CuOAc/PCy3 catalysis, a broad range of aromatic acyl fluorides, allenes, and silylboranes undergo efficient three-component coupling to furnish β-silyl-β,γ-unsaturated ketones bearing sterically congested quaternary carbon centers. Control experiments indicate that acyl fluorides play a crucial role in promoting productive coupling, whereas less reactive acyl derivatives favor competing silaboration pathways.

Nanoconfinement-enhanced cerium@carbon nanotubes composites for adsorption of fluoride.

The selective removal of fluoride (F-) from water is of great necessity because excessive F- in water can cause symptoms such as skeletal fluorosis and nerve damage, which poses a serious threat to human health. Cerium hydroxide (Ce(OH)3) nanoadsorbents offer a promising strategy for F- removal, which have limits such as aging-induced phase transition, easy deactivation, and aggregation. This study reports a cerium-loaded carbon nanotube (CNTs) composite (Ce@C10/80/150) to overcome the intrinsic defects and enhance the selective adsorption capacity for F- removal from water. Ce@C10/80/150 was

Fluoride-Releasing Fillers Modulate the Response of Fibroblasts to Dental Composites.

To reduce secondary caries-related restoration failure, ion-releasing fillers are being incorporated into resin-based composites (RBCs). However, a comprehensive investigation into the cytocompatibility of these materials, particularly concerning transcriptomic responses to monomer and ion release, has yet to be conducted. This study investigated model RBCs (80:20 UDMA:HEMA matrix, 62 vol% filler), including a fluorapatite (FA) containing composite (FA+, 9 vol%), to assess the effect of fluoride ion-releasing filler content on degree of conversion (DC%) and monomer release. Apparent water sorp

[A fatal case of acute occupational organic fluoride inhalation poisoning].

Organic fluoride compounds are a class of chemical raw materials containing fluorocarbon bonds, primarily classified into fluorinated alkanes and fluorinated olefins. Short-term high-concentration inhalation can lead to acute lung injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and rapidly progressive pulmonary fibrosis, with persistently high clinical mortality rates. This study summarizes the clinical characteristics, treatment experience, and prognostic factors of acute occupational inhalation poisoning by mixed organic fluoride gases to provide reference for similar case management. Mechanisms of neurotoxicity of fluoride or aluminum: implications for neurodegenerative disease risk.

Fluoride and aluminum are two naturally abundant elements with widespread industrial uses. Fluoride is also added to community water supplies as a public health intervention for dental cavity prevention. However, findings from animal studies show potential links of fluoride and aluminum exposure with neurodegenerative disease risk, particularly at high exposure levels. This review uniquely examines neurochemical and neurobiological impacts of fluoride and aluminum exposure as well as whether these processes may increase the risk of common and rare neurodegenerative diseases, including dementia

Fluoride Varnish Efficacy on the Remineralization of Early Caries Lesions in situ.

INTRODUCTION: In vitro studies show that fluoride varnishes (FVs) differ significantly in their ability to remineralize and fluoridate enamel caries lesions, as, respectively, measured by percent surface microhardness recovery (%SMHr) and enamel fluoride uptake (EFU). However, there is a need to confirm these findings in clinically relevant conditions. METHODS: This in situ study adopted a five-leg crossover design. In each leg, 28 subjects wore their mandibular partial denture with two previously demineralized enamel slabs treated with one of the following FV (selected based on our previous

Fluoride and Neurodevelopmental Hazard Modelling: An Assessment of Concentration-Response Analysis.

OBJECTIVES: A National Academies Consensus Study report concluded that the evidence did not support an assessment that fluoride is a neurodevelopmental hazard. However, some researchers have undertaken benchmark dose modelling to determine a safe fluoride concentration level in water. Therefore, the suitability of the data for modelling fluoride concentration in urine and water and cognition response using standard criteria was assessed. METHODS: Data quality was evaluated using a standard tool. A random-effects meta-analysis of standardised mean difference (SMD) and regression coefficients w

Effects of sodium fluoride on serum concentrations of selected psychotropic drugs.

Caution is imperative when interpreting drug concentrations in blood, plasma, or serum, given the potential variance in the distribution of a compound across these fluids. Preservatives, such as sodium fluoride, prove beneficial in preventing drug degradation in collected blood samples. This study aimed to examine the impact of sodium fluoride on different psychotropic drugs in both serum stabilized with and without this preservative. Paired blood samples (n = 100) were collected at the same time (with and without fluoride) from patients undergoing psychiatric treatment. Samples were examined

Health Risks and Benefits of Fluoride Exposure During Pregnancy and Infancy.

Health authorities have promoted community water fluoridation (CWF) to prevent dental caries for more than 75 years. However, growing evidence has raised questions about the safety of this public health intervention, particularly for young children who are at risk of excess fluoride intake. Divergent opinions about the risk-benefit ratio of CWF have ignited a global debate. The efficacy of topical fluoride in preventing dental caries is strong, whereas contemporary evidence for systemic administration of fluoride is weaker. Inequalities in access to dental care and topical fluorides introduce …

Management strategies for fluoride toxicity and the critical role of epigenetic therapy.

Fluoride is an essential trace element primarily known for its role in preventing dental caries; however, excessive exposure can lead to adverse health effects. Emerging research suggests possible links between fluorosis and neurodevelopmental disorders, including reduced cognitive function and increased prevalence of ADHD. Its impact on liver health such as hepatotoxicity and hormone-related infertility also raises concern. Moreover, high fluoride exposure has been associated with various toxicities, including skeletal fluorosis, reproductive toxicity, and neurotoxicity, potentially driven by
