OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to present a case of uterine avulsion due to blunt trauma.
CLINICAL CASE: A 40-year-old female with diabetes mellitus and chronic renal failure was run over by a truck resulting in an unstable pelvic fracture. She was submitted to external pelvic fixation, but for homodynamic instability a diagnostic peritoneal lavage was done with resulting macroscopic blood. A laparotomy was done and a uterine avulsion was found in the union of the isthmus and corpus. A subtotal hysterectomy was performed and the pelvis was also packed due to damage of the sacral plexus.

This investigation was undertaken to identify the structures torn within the medial retinaculum and localize the injury site anatomically following acute lateral dislocation of the patella in a cadaver model. The patellae of 10 fresh-frozen cadavers were translated laterally 135% of the patella width on a universal testing instrument. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed on all specimens prior to testing and immediately following testing. Anatomical dissection also was performed on the medial retinaculum following testing. Dissection revealed avulsion fractures from the inferomedial

Avulsion of the flexor digitorum profundus tendon with fracture of the distal phalanx is rare. Moreover, enchondroma is less frequent in the distal phalanx. We report two unusual cases of avulsion of the flexor digitorum profundus tendon at its insertion in combination with pathological fracture of the distal phalanx due to enchondroma. Curettage and bone grafting were performed for an enchondroma of the distal phalanx. The flexor digitorum profundus tendon and the avulsed bone fragment were reinserted through the bone graft into the distal phalanx using the pull-out technique. With Strickland

Traumatic injuries to permanent teeth include coronal and root fractures, subluxations, luxations, and avulsions. The most common complications after avulsions are necrosis of the pulp and root resorption. Treatment is often complex, time consuming, and expensive and requires multidisciplinary approaches such as endodontic and periodontal treatments, surgery, orthodontic movements, as well as esthetic coronal restoration. This review describes new clinical modalities for the treatment of avulsed teeth and discusses the rationale for their use.

Injuries of syndesmotic ligaments can occur in isolation or as a component of fractures with a latent or manifest diastasis between the distal tibia and fibula. Bony avulsions of the anterior or posterior tibial rim or the anterior fibula are frequently detected. Computed tomography imaging is essential for establishing the correct diagnosis. Relevant instability of the syndesmosis results from at least two ligament ruptures or avulsion fractures. The objective of surgical treatment is the anatomical reconstruction of the tibial incisura and the correct reduction of the fibula into it. Stable

Boutonniere deformity associated with a dorsal avulsion fracture of the central slip overlying the proximal interphalangeal joint results in loss of extension of the joint and hyperextension of the distal interphalangeal joint. This article reports a surgical technique for treatment of the injury in 21 digits, which involves application of loop stainless steel wire. We also present the long-term results using the technique on the digits. Loop wire fixation is a successful surgical technique for the treatment of displaced central slip avulsion fracture.

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) are common but understudied consequences of combat-related craniofacial trauma. The Swords of Iron (SOI) War exposed Israel Defense Forces (IDF) personnel to high-velocity injuries in extreme battlefield conditions. This study aims to characterize the prevalence, anatomical distribution, and associated complications of TDIs among IDF soldiers during the SOI war, and to explore their operational and clinical implications.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study using the IDF Trauma Registry (IDF-TR) from October 2023 to February 2025 was conducted.

AIM: This study aims to examine the factors influencing the decision to perform replantation following avulsion of permanent teeth, as well as factors affecting the maintenance of replanted teeth in the first-year post-injury.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective analysis involved examining dental records and periapical radiographs of patients with avulsed permanent teeth. Demographic information, details regarding traumatic lesions, and treatment specifications were extracted from dental records. Radiographs obtained during the initial appointment were used to assess root maturity, and t

It should be emphasized that most fractures about the knee in children and adolescents can be treated by closed methods. It follows that open reduction and fixation is employed when closed reduction fails. An interposed flap of torn periosteum may prevent closed reduction. Internal fixation is often required in avulsion fractures of the tibial tubercle, reduced displaced fracture-separations of the proximal tibial epiphysis, fracture-separations of the distal femoral epiphysis displaced in the sagittal plane, and displaced Salter-Harris type III and IV fracture-separations. A displaced avulsio

Acute sport-related avulsion fractures and osteochondral injuries are common in athletes, particularly in the pediatric population, and may present diagnostic challenges when radiographic findings are subtle. These injuries occur because of excessive tensile, shear, or impaction forces and most frequently involve apophyses, osteochondral junctions, or articular surfaces. Accurate characterization of injury location, fragment morphology, displacement, and associated soft-tissue abnormalities is essential to guide management, promote healing, and facilitate safe return to play (RTP). Radiographs

Pelvic avulsion injuries occur in both the skeletally immature and adult patient populations. Avulsion injuries are most common in the adolescent age group and usually present as an avulsion of the unfused apophysis at the level of tendon attachment resulting from violent muscular contraction during an athletic endeavor. Acute apophyseal avulsion injuries are usually easily detected and adequately imaged with radiographs, but occasionally advanced imaging such as magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography is required to detect and fully delineate the extent of injury. Chronic injuries c

Injuries of the hand and wrist are frequently encountered in radiology. Avulsions of the hand and wrist are a heterogeneous group of injuries, but they often have a characteristic imaging appearance that relates to the intricate bone and soft-tissue anatomy and the mechanism of injury. The imaging appearance and this intricate form and function dictate treatment of hand and wrist avulsions. This article reviews frequently and infrequently encountered avulsion injuries and describes abnormalities that may mimic the imaging appearance of avulsions. Specifically discussed entities include the Ben

Most atlas fractures are the result of compression forces. They are often combined with fractures of the axis and especially with the odontoid process. Multiple classification systems for atlas fractures have been described. For an adequate diagnosis, a computed tomography is mandatory. To distinguish between stable and unstable atlas injury, it is necessary to evaluate the integrity of the transverse atlantal ligament (TAL) by magnetic resonance imaging and to classify the TAL lesion. Studies comparing conservative and operative management of unstable atlas fractures are unfortunately not ava

Diagnosis of dental accidents is based on patient history, clinical examination and imaging. A completely avulsed tooth should immediately be reimplanted, and a dislodged tooth urgently repositioned to the original position. Avulsed primary teeth will never be reimplanted, and primary teeth of children under three years are not repositioned. Furthermore, fractures of the alveolar process and various soft tissue injuries but not dental fractures require urgent treatment. All dental accident patients should be referred to dental consultation for further examinations and treatment.

Avulsion fractures of the acromion [corrected] are described in 10 patients with severe tetanus neonatorum. Typically bilateral and invariably contemporaneous, they result from isometric contraction. Forced abduction of the arm against adductor resistance leads to avulsion of that segment of the acromium where the multipenate fibres of the deltoid muscle originate. To our knowledge this unique and ominous orthopaedic complication of severe neonatal tetanus has not been documented previously.

Atlas injuries were produced in vitro and evaluated by radiographic examinations and anatomic studies from a clinical viewpoint. Ten cadaveric human upper cervical spine specimens were subjected to a high-speed axial impact. Injuries to the atlas consisted of six bursting fractures, two ruptures of the transverse ligament, one four-part fracture without a prominent bursting, and one posterior arch fracture. The major soft tissue injury involved the transverse ligament. There were five bony avulsions and three midsubstance tears. In this study, computed tomographic examinations clearly demonstr

BACKGROUND: Current knowledge of the role of the nonoperative treatment of Lisfranc injuries is based on a few retrospective case series. Hence, consensus on which patients can be treated nonoperatively does not exist. The aim of this study was to investigate outcomes after nonoperative treatment of Lisfranc injuries.
METHODS: In this study, patients were collected by recruiting all computer tomography-confirmed Lisfranc injuries treated during a 5-year period at a major trauma hospital. Between 2 and 6 years after suffering the injury, patients completed the visual analogue scale foot and an
