INTRODUCTION: Injuries around the elbow are common in pediatric population. Amongst them, most common is fractures of the supracondylar part of humerus, followed by condylar fractures. Fractures of the neck of the radius account for five-ten percent of the total injuries. Various techniques for closed reduction of the fracture have been described in literature. Open reduction and fixation is indicated when closed reduction fails to provide satisfactory results and the angulation remains more than 45-60 degrees.
CASE REPORT: We present two cases of severely displaced radial neck fractures trea

BACKGROUND: MacFarland fracture is a joint fracture of the ankle in children involving the medial malleolus (Salter-Harris type III or IV). These fractures are acknowledged to have poor prognosis because of the risk of misalignment due to the development of an epiphysiodesis bridge. Current recommended treatment for a displacement of ≥ 2 mm is open reduction through an arthrotomy with screw fixation. This study aimed to evaluate functional and radiologic results of a less-invasive surgical technique consisting of closed reduction, arthrographic control of fracture reposition, and percutaneous

PURPOSE: The aim of this international AO-study was to compare the functional outcome after open versus closed treatment of mandibular condylar neck fractures.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A prospective comparative study with two follow-ups (FU) at 8-12 weeks and 1 year was undertaken in two clinics, which exclusively privileged either surgical or conservative treatment due to different therapeutic agendas. Patients from clinic 1 (ENDO group) received endoscope-assisted transoral open reduction and internal fixation, whereas patients from clinic 2 (CONS group) were treated conservatively without sur

Obesity is prevalent in the developed world and is associated with significant costs to the health care system. The effect of morbid obesity in patients operatively treated for long-bone fractures of the lower extremity is largely unknown. The National Trauma Data Bank was accessed to determine if morbidly obese patients (body mass index >40) with lower extremity fractures have longer length of hospital stay, higher cost, greater rehabilitation admission rates, and more complications than nonobese patients. We identified patients with operatively treated diaphyseal femur (6920) and tibia (5190

BACKGROUND: Ultrasound-guided closed reduction allows for real-time visualization of fracture segments, overcoming the limitations of blind palpation. However, standard probes vary in resolution and adaptability. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical feasibility and efficiency of a wireless handheld ultrasound device (V-scan) by comparing it with high-end linear and hockey stick probes through a retrospective analysis.
METHODS: This retrospective comparative study reviewed the medical records of 160 patients with nasal bone fractures treated between January 2024 and January 2026. Closed r

INTRODUCTION: The optimal reduction strategy for displaced femoral neck fractures (DFNFs) in non-elderly adults remains controversial. Although open reduction may improve radiographic alignment, its impact on outcomes remains unclear.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Adults aged < 60 years with DFNFs who were treated with internal fixation between 2017 and 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were categorized into closed and open reduction groups. Reduction quality was assessed using the Garden alignment index and the Haidukewych reduction criteria. Multivariate analyses were performed for the

BACKGROUND: Peripheral nerve blocks may provide better conditions for closed reduction of distal radius fractures as compared to other more frequently used modalities. In this systematic review, we evaluate existing evidence on the effect and harm of peripheral nerve blocks for closed reduction of distal radius fractures in adults.
METHODS: We performed a systematic review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis including trials investigating the use of peripheral nerve blocks for closed reduction of distal radius fractures. Co-primary outcomes were (1) the quality of the closed redu

BACKGROUND: Mandibular fracture is the second most common fracture of facial bone, next to nasal bone. Twenty-five to forty percent of mandibular fractures involve the condyle. In the literature, there exists no consensus "gold standard" treatment for mandibular condylar fractures, and there is a continuing debate on whether condylar fractures should undergo closed or open reduction.
MATERIALS AND METHOD: Twenty patients who had undergone open reduction and closed reduction treatment were included in the study. Clinically maximal interincisal opening, laterotrusive and protrusive movements, p

PURPOSE: Type of and time to definitive treatment for distal radius fractures can influence the outcomes. The impact of social determinants of health (eg, insurance type) on distal radius fracture care remains unknown despite having health equity implications. Thus, we evaluate the association between insurance type and rate of surgery, the time to surgery, and the complication rate for distal radius fractures.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the PearlDiver Database. We identified adults with closed distal radius fractures. Patients were divided into subgroups by age

Background The choice of surgical versus nonsurgical treatment for fractures of the condylar process has its own limitations and remains a controversial issue. Improved knowledge of anatomy, technique, and technology combined with adequate experience with careful planning of surgical technique can avoid all the possible complications. Aim To compare open reduction and internal fixation with closed reduction and maxillomandibular fixation in the management of condylar fractures. Materials and method A prospective study was carried out among 22 patients who had minimally displaced or displaced c

BACKGROUND: Displaced lateral condyle humeral fractures in children are treated operatively to maximize function and growth of the elbow. Traditionally an open approach is used for reduction of the fracture, but recent series have shown promising results with closed reduction. Percutaneous pins are typically used for fixation, no matter the reduction method. This retrospective review compares our experience with early complications after open and closed reduction of these fractures.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed charts and radiographs of operatively treated lateral condyle fractures. T

BACKGROUND: Timing of surgery for ankle fractures is largely dependent on the condition of the surrounding soft-tissues. This study aimed to determine the clinical effectiveness of a pre-operative in-cast artero-venous (AV) impulse device in the management of closed ankle fractures requiring surgery.
METHODS: A consecutive series of 64 closed ankle fractures were managed using the AV impulse system prior to surgery. Patients were compared to 73 consecutive closed ankle fractures managed surgically in the same unit immediately prior to the implementation of the AV impulse device study. Outcome
