BACKGROUND: Mixed granulocytic asthma (MGA) is usually associated with poor response to corticosteroid therapy and a high risk of severe asthma. Cathepsin S (CTSS) has been found to play an important role in various inflammatory diseases. This study was aimed to investigate the role of CTSS in MGA.

This study describes granulocytic anaplasmosis in two dogs naturally infected with Anaplasma phagocytophilum. The 3-year-old dogs (male and female) came from the same household and were referred to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Iasi for blood donation. They were subject to standard routine tests: haematology blood test, blood smear, and serological tests (VETSCAN® FLEX4 and IDEXX SNAP 4Dx Plus). BACKGROUND: As an extramedullary form of proliferating myeloblasts, granulocytic sarcoma (GS) is common in patients with acute myeloid leukemia. GS in the central nervous system is rare, and an intraspinal space-occupying lesion caused by GS is even rarer. Surgical decompression is often necessary to remove the intraspinal space-occupying lesion. We describe a 44-year old man who suffered an isolated external auditory canal granulocytic sarcoma in remission of acute myeloid leukemia. The patient confirmed acute promyelocytic leukemia three years ago and the disease was in remission after treatment. Two months ago he presented pain and hearing loss in the left ear and the symptom developed gradually. At otoscopic examination a tumoral lesion was noted in the external auditory canal and computerized tomography scan showed a mass in the left external acoustic meatus without bone erosion.

This article presents data of complex study of human granulocytic anaplasmosis the human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA) in the western region of Ukraine. Natural HGA foci were identified, where the prevalence of A. phagocytophilum in the main vector (I. ricinus) amount to (12.0 +/- 0.7) %, and seroprevalence of HGA among the healthy population--(28.6 +/- 1.6) %.
