Analysis of pupillary responses in pediatric patients with vitamin D deficiency.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effects of vitamin D deficiency on pupillary responses in the pediatric population. METHODS: The study was conducted using data from the right eyes of 52 children with vitamin D deficiency and 52 healthy children. Measurements were taken under static and dynamic conditions with automatic pupillometry. Static measurements were performed at scotopic, mesopic, and photopic light intensities. The mean pupil dilation speed was calculated by observing the changes in pupil dilation over time according to dynamic measurements. Differences between patient and control groups we

Application of dynamic thermal imaging in a photocarcinogenesis mouse model.

INTRODUCTION: In clinical practice and experimental settings, cutaneous premalignant and malignant lesions are commonly diagnosed by histopathological biopsy. However, this technique is invasive and results in functional or cosmetic defects. Dynamic thermal imaging is a non-invasive technique that quantifies the infra-red (IR) radiation emitted by a subject after the introduction of external thermal stimuli (such as heat or cold). METHODS: Forty hairless albino (Crl:SKH1-hr) mice were randomised to the control group or the experimental group. The experimental group was regularly irradiated wi

Evaluation of Clinical and Radiological Outcomes of Rigid, Dynamic, and Hybrid Stabilization Systems in Degenerative Lumbar Spine Surgery.

Objectives: Retrospective comparative cohort study. This study aimed to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of rigid, dynamic, and hybrid stabilization systems in the surgical management of degenerative lumbar spine disease, with a focus on adjacent segment disease (ASD), fusion-related complications, and postoperative recovery. Rigid fusion techniques provide immediate stability but may increase mechanical stress at adjacent segments, leading to ASD. Dynamic and hybrid constructs aim to preserve more physiological motion, potentially reducing fusion-related complications. Methods:

Dynamic curvature topography for evaluating the anterior corneal surface change with Corvis ST.

BACKGROUND: The measurement of dynamic parameters, such as the length of applanation and the amplitude of deformation, is significant for evaluating corneal properties. Most of the corneal properties (related to shape) including the anterior corneal curvature and the thickness of cornea can be easily measured using some existing techniques. However, they only provide the static or pseudo-dynamic analysis. Based on Corvis ST images, the dynamic features after corneal boundaries detection and parameter estimation will be helpful for corneal analysis. MATERIAL: The study included 40 eyes in norm

Comparison between single-segment Isobar EVO dynamic stabilization and Isobar TTL dynamic stabilization in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases: a single center retrospective study over 4 years.

OBJECTIVE: Posterior instrumented fusion is the most widely accepted surgical treatment for spinal stenosis and disc herniation. However, fusion can affect daily activities due to lumbar stiffness. In recent years, dynamic stabilization has been introduced to overcome the drawbacks of fusion, however, it is inconclusive whether dynamic stabilization requires the maintenance of a level of activity that is closer to the physiological state of activity for better clinical efficacy. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of dynamic stabilization with different levels of activit

Three-dimensional gait analysis for assessing dynamic ankle spasticity after stroke.

BACKGROUND: Dynamic ankle spasticity during walking is a common complication after stroke. It remains unclear which clinical indicators predict dynamic spasticity and whether three-dimensional (3D) gait parameters can reflect its severity. METHODS: 3D gait analysis data were obtained from 42 patients with dynamic spasticity and a 1:1 propensity score-matched control group. Spasticity was assessed using the Modified Tardieu Scale (MTS). Dynamic kinematic and spatiotemporal gait indicators were analyzed. Spearman correlation analysis was performed to examine associations between gait parameters

Usefulness of subtraction images for accurate diagnosis of pituitary microadenomas in dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND: Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the modality of choice for the diagnosis of pituitary microadenomas; however, it may be associated with a relatively high false-negative rate, especially in small lesions. PURPOSE: To evaluate the usefulness of subtraction images for enhancing the visual detection of pituitary microadenomas. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In total, 50 patients with clinically established diagnosis hyperprolactinemia, acromegaly, and Cushing's disease were enrolled. Ten patients referred for brain MRI for reasons other than pituitary abnormality

Pituitary microadenomas: early enhancement with dynamic CT--implications of arterial blood supply and potential importance.

In a search for early contrast medium enhancement, which can indicate the presence of direct arterial supply, a retrospective review of dynamic computed tomographic (CT) scans was performed in 260 patients with a pituitary microadenoma smaller than 10 mm in diameter. Fifty patients underwent examination with dynamic CT for nonendocrinologic disease as a control group to establish the normal pattern of pituitary gland enhancement. One hundred seventy microadenomas (65.4%) displayed the usual dynamic CT pattern (ie, they did not show early enhancement before that of the portal system of the pitu

Five-year outcomes for bell bottom, iliac branch endoprosthesis, and coil and cover approaches from the GREAT registry.

OBJECTIVE: There are a variety of methods used today to treat common iliac aneurysms with endovascular techniques. Of these approaches, little is known about whether a particular limb strategy influences endoleak, reintervention, or aneurysm regression rates. We present 5-year data comparing endoleak, stent graft migration, fracture, aneurysm sac dynamics, and aortic rupture rates among patients treated with bell bottom limbs (BB), iliac branch endoprosthesis (IBE), and coil and cover (CC) approaches from the Global Registry for Endovascular Aortic Treatment registry. Comparative dynamics of peritoneal cell immunophenotypes in sheep during the early and late stages of the infection with Fasciola hepatica by flow cytometric analysis.

BACKGROUND: The peritoneal cell populations (PCP) are thought to play a crucial role during the early immune response in Fasciola hepatica infection while newly excysted juveniles (NEJ) are migrating in the peritoneal cavity (PC) towards the liver. In this study, we aimed to determine the immunophenotypes of the PCP and to analyse the dynamics of the recruitment of the PCP during the early and late stage of the infection in sheep infected with F. hepatica. METHODS: Thirty-seven sheep were divided into three groups: Group 1 (n = 20) and 2 (n = 10) were challenged with F. hepatica, Group 3 (n =
