Electrocardiographic prediction of left ventricular hypertrophy in women and men with left bundle branch block - Comparison of QRS duration, amplitude and voltage-time-integral.

BACKGROUND: Standard ECG criteria for left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy rely on QRS amplitudes. However, in the setting of left bundle branch block (LBBB), ECG correlates of LV hypertrophy are not well established. We sought to evaluate quantitative ECG predictors of LV hypertrophy in the presence of LBBB. METHODS: We included adult patients with typical LBBB having ECG and transthoracic echocardiogram performed within 3 months of each other in 2010-2020. Orthogonal X, Y, Z leads were reconstructed from digital 12‑lead ECGs using Kors's matrix. In addition to QRS duration, we evaluated QRS am

Left bundle branch block and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy: the Losartan Intervention For Endpoint Reduction in Hypertension study.

BACKGROUND: Whether left bundle branch block is associated with cardiovascular events in hypertension with electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy is unknown. METHODS: Hypertensive patients with electrocardiographic-left ventricular hypertrophy were randomized to losartan-based or atenolol-based treatment and followed for 4.8 years in the losartan intervention for endpoint reduction in hypertension study. Cox regression models controlling for significant covariates assessed the association of left bundle branch block with cardiovascular events. RESULTS: At baseline, 564 patients ha

SOX2-OT serves as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy by targeting miR-30d-5p.

This study aims to explore the clinical significance and underlying mechanism of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) SOX2-OT in hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Primary hypertensives without LVH (n = 182) and with LVH (n = 104) were enrolled. ROC curve evaluated its diagnostic value for hypertensive LVH. Patients were followed for five years. Kaplan-Meier and Cox analyses were conducted to assess the prognostic value and identify potential risk factors for adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). An in vitro model of Ang II-induced cardiomyocytes was established. Cell proliferation and

Efficacy of low dose colchicine on left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with coronary artery disease: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) contributes to a substantial risk of adverse outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Inflammation is one of the mechanisms responsible for LVH progression. The study aimed to test the efficacy of colchicine, an anti-inflammatory agent, to reduce left ventricular mass in patients with CAD and LVH. METHODS: Sixty-six patients with CAD, LVH and controlled blood pressure were randomly assigned to colchicine 0.6 mg daily or placebo for 48 weeks after a run-in period. The primary endpoint was changes in left ventricular mass index (LVM

Left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertension: a systematic review and meta-analysis of echocardiographic studies published from 2011 to 2025.

AIM: An updated meta-analysis targeting the prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), a cardinal marker of hypertensive heart disease (HHD), over the last 15 years is lacking. Thus, we analyzed the literature in order to provide a comprehensive information on LVH prevalence, as assessed by echocardiography, in the hypertensive setting. METHODS: The PubMed, OVID-MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library databases were analyzed to search English-language articles published from 1 January 2011 up to 31 December 2025. Studies were identified by using MeSH terms and crossing the following search items

Diagnostic Predictive Scores of Amyloid Cardiomyopathy in Patients with Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction and Left Ventricular Hypertrophy.

BACKGROUND: Wild-type transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTRwt-CM) is a frequent but underdiagnosed cause of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Early identification is essential given the availability of disease-modifying therapies. The T-Amylo and Davies scores are non-invasive tools for estimating ATTR CM probability, but their comparative performance in the same real-world population is not well defined. OBJECTIVES: To compare the diagnostic accuracy of T-Amylo and Davies scores in consecutive patients referred for suspected card

Association of triglyceride glucose-body mass index and left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with IgA nephropathy: a retrospective study.

INTRODUCTION: IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is one of the most prevalent forms of glomerulonephritis worldwide, particularly affecting 40-50% of the East Asian population. Cardiovascular mortality represents a leading cause of death in patients with IgAN. Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) serves as a predictor of heart failure and cardiovascular mortality. Previous studies have indicated that Triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI), a surrogate marker for insulin resistance surrogates, correlated with the development of LVH. However, there is a lack of information available regarding the asso

Effects of Agalsidase Alfa Enzyme Replacement Therapy on Left Ventricular Hypertrophy on Electrocardiogram in a Female Patient with Fabry Disease.

Fabry disease is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder caused by defective enzyme activity of α-galactosidase A and treated with enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with recombinant α-galactosidase. ERT reduces left ventricular mass assessed by echocardiography or magnetic resonance imaging. However, electrocardiogram changes during ERT have not been fully elucidated. In the present case, ERT with agalsidase alfa for 4 years decreased QRS voltage and negative T depth along with a reduction of left ventricular mass and wall thickness and improvement of symptoms in a female patient with Fabry dise

Transient left ventricular hypertrophy in a 30-year-old female with chronic emotional stress and depression treated with venlafaxine.

UNLABELLED: Transient left ventricular hypertrophy or thickening (TLVH/T) is a phenomenon rarely observed in some patients with myocarditis and stress-induced takotsubo syndrome (TTS). Initial presentation on echocardiography can mimic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), sometimes with a decreased ejection fraction (EF). A CASE REPORT: The authors describe TLVH/T in a 30-year-old female with a history of chronic emotional stress and depression treated with venlafaxine (75 mg twice a day). She suffered from spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) and, because of a family conflict, was living alone with a

Aortic calcification is associated with arterial stiffening, left ventricular hypertrophy, and diastolic dysfunction in elderly male patients with hypertension.

BACKGROUND: Stiffening of large arteries can result in changes of cardiac structure and function by increasing afterload to the left ventricle. Calcification has been proposed as a mechanism underlying progression of arterial stiffening. The aim of the current study was to investigate the relationship between aortic calcification, arterial stiffening, left ventricular hypertrophy, and diastolic dysfunction. METHODS: One hundred and sixty-four hypertensive elderly (≥65 years old) male patients with normal left ventricular systolic function (left ventricular ejection fraction ≥55%) underwent tr

Left ventricular mechanical and energetic changes in long-term isoproterenol-induced hypertrophied hearts of SERCA2a transgenic rats.

Overexpression of cardiac sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca(2+)-ATPase (SERCA2a) has been suggested as a strategic intervention for cardiac failure. However, its benefit in wild-type (WT) rats with normal SERCA2a levels seems to be small. To investigate whether it would be beneficial in a cardiac failure model with down-regulated SERCA2a levels, we made a cardiac hypertrophy model using isoproterenol infusion (1.2mgkg(-1)day(-1) for 1 or 4weeks; TG-ISO1w and TG-ISO4w, respectively) in SERCA2a transgenic (TG) rats and compared these rats with littermate WT rats that underwent the same treatments (WT-IS

Ventricular hypertrophy and left atrial dilatation persist and are associated with reduced survival after valve replacement for aortic stenosis.

OBJECTIVES: We sought to understand the factors modulating left heart reverse remodeling after aortic valve replacement, the relationship between the preoperative symptoms and modulators of left heart remodeling, and their influence on long-term survival. METHODS: From October 1991 to January 2008, 4264 patients underwent primary aortic valve replacement for aortic stenosis. Changes in the time course of left ventricular reverse remodeling were assessed using 5740 postoperative transthoracic echocardiograms from 3841 patients. RESULTS: Left ventricular hypertrophy rapidly declined after surg

Genetic variation in angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 gene is associated with extent of left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a common, inherited cardiac muscle disease, is primarily caused by mutations in sarcomeric protein-encoding genes and is characterized by overgrowth of ventricular muscle that is highly variable in extent and location. This variability has been partially attributed to locus and allelic heterogeneity of the disease-causing gene, but other factors, including unknown genetic factors, also modulate the extent of hypertrophy that develops in response to the defective sarcomeric functioning. Components of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system are plausible candidate h

Myocardial bridging in a young patient with left ventricular hypertrophy: a combined approach with CT scan and color Doppler echocardiography.

In this report the authors deal with the combined approach of last generation computed tomography and color Doppler echocardiography to make a diagnosis of myocardial coronary bridging in a young patient with left ventricular hypertrophy. Double-source tomographic scan precisely identified the tunnelled segment of the left descending coronary artery (the first diagonal branch), whereas echocardiography allowed recognising diastolic and systolic velocity just in this vessel. Coronary velocity throughout the bridged artery was not particularly increased at rest and late after exercise, even if t
