We investigated the effect of selective muscarinic antagonists on atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) release induced by intracerebroventricular (i.c.v) injection of carbachol in the rat. Murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) was injected into the cerebral ventricle of mouse embryos on day 13 of gestation after exposing the embryos out of the uterus in the abdominal cavity of the mother. Ten patients with SSPE were surveyed during the last 4 years from the viewpoint of clinical safety for use of ribavirin therapy. Although effectiveness varied among cases, they were all treated safely with intraventricular ribavirin. This study suggests that treatment is safe and well-tolerated.

No reports are available about the role of central adenosine in the respiratory and thermoregulatory responses to hypoxia in conscious rats. We therefore measured ventilation (VE) and body temperature (Tb) before and after intracerebroventricular injection of saline or aminophylline (adenosine antagonist), followed by a 30-min period of hypoxia exposure. Aminophylline did not change VE or Tb during normoxia; however, during hypoxia, it caused a significant increase in VE, and significantly attenuated hypoxic hypothermia. Leptin regulates adiposity by reducing caloric intake and increasing energy expenditure. Because loss of body weight is common during infectious, neoplastic, and autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system, we examined whether an injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) into the lateral cerebral ventricle increases circulating leptin levels in fasted mice.
