Using both in vivo and in vitro tests, dogs with atopic dermatitis were examined for sensitization with Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica, CJ) pollen allergen. In these investigations two types of antigen preparations were used: (i) Whole Antigen (WAg), and (ii) Soluble Antigen (SAg). For immunization, Muramyl Dipeptide (MDP) was employed as an adjuvant. Crude antigens of Clonorchis sinensis adult worms were purified by Sephadex G-200 column chromatography. A purified antigen was then applied to detect clonorchiasis patients and parasite-free subjects by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and an intradermal test (IDT). Lecithin-coated microdroplets of methoxyflurane (MOF) are shown to produce local anesthesia of three- to six-day duration in the skin with a single intradermal injection in rats. Anesthesia was quantitated by elevation of the threshold (milliampere) for shock vocalization with intradermal electrodes.
