Two patients with Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome (RTS) were found to have congenital dislocation of the patella (CDP). The dislocation was bilateral in one patient. Both underwent surgical reduction and stabilisation. The dislocation recurred in one patient who had associated genu valgum and external tibial torsion at the time of stabilisation. We feel that early diagnosis of CDP in patients with RTS is important to help early mobilisation and avoid secondary degenerative knee changes occurring.

INTRODUCTION: Inferior dislocation of the hip, also called luxatio erecta femoris, is the rarest type of hip dislocation with a poorly understood mechanism of injury. We came across three such cases resulting from high-energy trauma with various other associated injuries.
CASE REPORT: The first patient, a 25-year-old man, presented with the right hip pain, hip and knee joint in flexion without rotational component, after motor vehicle collision. The second patient, a 42-year-old man, presented with the left hip pain, hip and knee joint in flexion with rotational component, following fall from

The correlation between the insertion level of the vastus medialis muscle and lateral patellofemoral angle (LPA), lateral patellar displacement (LPD) and tilt (LPT), and the height of the patella (LT/LP) was analyzed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with patellar dislocation (n = 10) and in control subjects (n = 10). Images were produced in 0 degrees and 20 degrees of knee flexion. The insertion level to the patella was also analyzed with the knee in extension. No significant correlation was noted between the insertion level and different patellofemoral indexes, but multiple-reg

INTRODUCTION: Impaired hip kinematics and kinetics may incite patellar instability. This study tested the hypothesis that hip adduction and internal rotation angles during gait are higher in adolescents with recurrent patellar dislocations compared to healthy controls.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Case-control study. Eighty-eight knees (67 patients) with recurrent patellar dislocation (mean age 14.8 years ± 2.8 SD) were compared to 54 healthy knees (27 individuals, 14.9 years ± 2.4 SD). Peak hip, knee and pelvis kinematics and kinetics were captured using 3D-gait analysis (VICON, 12 cameras, 200 Hz,

BACKGROUND: Trochleoplasty is an effective patellar stabilization procedure; however, it is associated with a risk of complications that cannot be ignored. Prior systematic reviews on this topic did not include more recent studies reporting important outcomes, particularly the long-term results of lateral elevation trochleoplasty. This led us to carry out a new meta-analysis of the various trochleoplasty procedures to specify: (1) the recurrence rate of patellofemoral dislocation; (2) the complication rates and; (3) the clinical outcomes.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Studies reporting complications

CASE: A 25-year-old man presented with posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion and ipsilateral fracture of the femoral head after sustaining a dashboard injury. The hip was not dislocated on presentation, and there were no other injuries; he was managed operatively for both. His hip and knee healed well, with good functioning at 15 months of follow-up.
CONCLUSIONS: Dashboard injuries can cause simultaneous knee and hip injuries, usually PCL and posterior hip dislocation. This case report identifies a specific pattern of tibial avulsion fracture of the PCL combined with femoral head fractur

BACKGROUND: Hemophilic arthritis (HA) is associated with significant changes in the morphology of mature knee joints due to abnormal growth plate development. Previous studies have established marked distinctions between the femur and tibia of subjects with Haemophilia and those with osteoarthritis (OA). This study explored the morphological characteristics of the patella and patellofemoral joint in subjects with Haemophilia. These findings can inform the design of knee joint prostheses tailored to this condition, improve the precision of total knee replacement surgery, and reduce postoperativ

BACKGROUND: Inferior intra-articular patella dislocation is rare and comprises horizontal (type 1) and the more common vertical (type 2) dislocations in young and elderly patients respectively. In this case report, we describe a case of an elderly patient who presented with a type 2 dislocation after a fall. The mechanisms of inferior patella dislocation, their classification, key imaging features and treatment options are discussed.
CASE SUMMARY: A 75-year-old woman presented with a right knee fixed flexion deformity after a fall. Preoperative imaging confirmed a vertical intra-articular pat

In the treatment of recurrent subluxation and dislocation of the patella in adolescents and young adults, the authors describe a method consisting of: --a modified Roux procedure for internal transposition and advancement of the anterior tibial tuberosity; --the Lecène technic for over-the-top reinsertion of the vastus medialis on the lateral aspect of the patella. All the patients had a plaster cast for 10 days followed by rehabilitation until normal knee function was achieved. Stiff knees were mobilized under general anesthesia. Normal activity was progressively resumed 6 weeks after surgery

This is a unique clinical case of a spontaneous non-traumatic hip dislocation in a patient with stroke with a hip and knee flexion pattern. This case highlights the role of spasticity as a cause of hip dislocation and the need to combine focal spasticity treatment and surgery to restore ambulation.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the treatment methed of recurrent patellar dislocation associated with old osteochondral fracture and to evaluate its effectiveness.
METHODS: Between August 2010 and August 2014, 12 cases of recurrent patellar dislocation with old osteochondral fracture were treated. There were 4 males and 8 females with an average age of 18.3 years (range, 15-24 years). The left knee was involved in 7 cases and the right knee in 5 cases. All the patients had a history of patellar dislocation, the average interval from injury to first hospitalization was 7.6 months (range, 6-13 months).

Mobile-bearing Oxford medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) has been widely used and has produced good results in the treatment of medial compartmental osteoarthritis. But it is associated with the potential risk of meniscal bearing dislocation. Symptoms caused by most meniscal bearing dislocations include acute pain, knee swelling, and locking. We report two unusual cases of meniscal bearing spinning of 180° without remarkable symptoms, which would have been easily missed if we had not watched carefully. Therefore, if there is sudden locking, pain, swelling, or a slight locking hist

BACKGROUND: Radiological measurements can predict patellar dislocation and are used to plan patella-stabilizing surgery in patients who have patellofemoral instability. However, it is unclear whether these measurements can predict subjective symptoms in patients without previous stabilizing surgery.
STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3.
HYPOTHESIS/PURPOSE: The purpose was to investigate the correlation between radiological measurements and subjective symptoms in individuals with previous patellar dislocation without previous patella-stabilizing surgery. It was hypothesiz

This study compared 20 children hospitalised with acute patellofemoral dislocation with an age-matched healthy control group with no history of knee problems or patellar dislocation. The following morphological parameters were significantly different between the groups: the mean patellar width and length, mean sulcus depth, mean patellar tendon width and total patellar volume. The magnetic resonance imaging findings of this study suggested that structurally smaller than normal patella and patellar tendon volumes are predisposing factors for acute patellofemoral dislocation.

PURPOSE: To determine in the long-term the rate of osteoarthritis of recession wedge trochleoplasty performed in patients with high-grade trochlear dysplasia and recurrent patellar dislocations. The hypothesis was that the rate of secondary osteoarthritis was low.
METHODS: Fifteen consecutive patients (17 knees) undergoing a recession wedge trochleoplasty surgery for recurrent patellar dislocation were retrospectively included. Recurrence of dislocation and functional scores of Lille and Kujala were collected. A complete radiological assessment was carried out to assess secondary patella-femo

UNLABELLED: Recently, medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction has been emphasized for the treatment of patellar dislocation. This study compared the results of medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction by adductor magnus tenodesis with distal patellar realignment in patients with recurrent patellar dislocation. Additionally, the development of patellofemoral osteoarthrosis was compared for these two procedures at a median 10-year followup. Between 1994 and 2000, 47 consecutive patients were treated for recurrent patellar dislocation by adductor magnus tenodesis (18 knees) or Roux-Gol

INTRODUCTION: Congenital dislocation of the patella is defined as lateral dislocation of the patella present at birth, impossibility of closed reduction and diagnosis before the age of 10 years. We report about a rare case of a bilateral congenital dislocation of the patella.
CASE REPORT: Physical examination of an eight-month- old boy showed bilateral knee flexion contractures associated with moderate genu varum. On both sides the patella could not be palpated easily. Radiographic diagnosis could not show the patella as the patella normally ossifies later. Ultrasound examination located the
