Toxocariasis, a disease caused by infection with larvae of Toxocara canis, T. cati and/or congeners, represents clinical syndromes in humans including visceral and ocular larva migrans, neurotoxocariasis and covert/common toxocariasis. It is reported to be one of the most widespread public health and economically important zoonotic parasitic infections that humans share with dogs, wild canids, including foxes, and possibly other mammals. Humans become infected by accidental ingestion of embryonated Toxocara eggs, or larvae from tissues from domestic or wild paratenic hosts. Most infections are…

A human case of creeping eruption due to Gnathostoma nipponicum was confirmed indirectly by finding infective advanced third-stage larvae in leftover largemouth bass meat. This is the first report indicating that the largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) serves as a source of G. nipponicum infection in humans.

BACKGROUND Ancylostoma caninum is a soil-borne, soil-transmitted helminth with infective larvae and produces cutaneous larva migrans in humans. The objective of this study was to confirm the presence of A. caninum in domestic dogs from the urban-marginal and rural sectors of the Ecuadorian coast through morphometry, culture, and molecular techniques. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 498 domestic dogs were analyzed via 5 coproparasitic screening methods: direct, modified flotation, sedimentation with centrifugation using saline solution (identification of eggs), and modified Baermann and Harada-…

Toxocara cati (T. cati) and Toxocara canis (T. canis), roundworms of cats and dogs, are zoonotic parasites that cause visceral and ocular larval migrans in human beings. Humans and other paratenic hosts are infected by ingesting the infective Toxocara eggs from contaminated soil, unwashed hands, contaminated raw vegetables or ingestion of under-cooked organs and muscle tissues of infected paratenic hosts such as chickens, cattle and sheep. It has been shown that the seroprevalence of toxocariasis in the rural and urban children of southern Iran is high and more than 50% of cats of this area ar

Skin lesion is common in person living with HIV. We reported a 42 years old HIV positive man with single erythema skin lesion on the right foot. Clinical examination, anamnesis and laboratory examination revealed that it was cutaneous larva migrant due to parasitic infection. The cutaneous larva migrant due to hookworms is one of neglected tropical disease that might occur in adult with immunocompromised. This neglected disease is discussed rarely and might not be found in developed country, but it is still a common disease in the tropical region. Patient was treated successfully with albendaz

A 24-year-old woman 2-3 months after a normal parturation presented geophagy. Due to hypermenorrhea she consulted a gynecologist and in a hemogram a 57% (6,893 x mm3) hypereosinophilia was detected. A chest TAC showed bilateral pulmonary nodules. The following tests resulted positive: ELISA IgG for toxocariasis 1:1000, isohemagglutinins anti A 1:2048 and anti B 1:512. The patient was treated with albendazole and prednisone during 10 days. One month after treatment eosinophilia decreased to 2.590 x mm3 and ELISA IgG for toxocariasis descended to 1:128. Different aspects of human toxocariasis ar

Reporting 4 cases of gnathostomiasis, a clinical review of this disease is given by the authors. In one of these cases the diagnosis could be established by evidencing the parasite. The name: nodular migratory eosinophilic panniculitis is suggested for this disease.

The diagnosis of gnathostomiasis typically includes a triad of eosinophilia, migratory skin lesions, and exposure risk. The cutaneous manifestations are protean yet often involve intermittent migratory swellings and creeping skin eruptions with abscesses or nodules, which vary in onset and duration. We report the first case of gnathostomiasis presenting as fever and eosinophilia without cutaneous migratory and internal organ involvement.
