Laryngomalacia is the most common laryngeal anomaly which causes inspiratory stridor in newborns. The disease is usually self-limiting and resolves before the age of two years. We present a case of severe laryngomalacia with feeding disorder and airway obstruction which needed surgical management--supraglottoplasty. The shortened aryepiglottic folds were incised using CO(2) laser and jet ventilation. The patient was observed at the hospital for one week after surgery and discharged. Four weeks after treatment, the patient was free of airway obstruction and feeding problems.

Lasers have revolutionized the practice of modern dermatology. Our understanding of laser physics and selective photothermolysis has expanded greatly over the last 20 years. In the last 2 years, we have looked beyond the traditional lasers and explored new concepts. This article will look at five of these new concepts. A strong understanding of these new techniques will allow dermatologists to use them either primarily or in combination with more conventional methods.

Stridor in the pediatric age group needs detailed evaluation. Laryngomalacia, the commonest cause of stridor is mostly benign, but in about 10% patients can be an important cause of morbidity and mortality. Laser surgical correction in patients with severe laryngomalacia gives good results. We evaluated 32 patients of stridor. All were screened with fibreoptic laryngoscopy and whenever indicated, direct endoscopy was carried out. 13 (40%) of the patients had laryngomalacia. The introduction of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) has renewed interest in laser trabeculoplasty for the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) in eyes with glaucoma. This review was undertaken to address frequently raised issues pertinent to SLT in clinical practice. Although surgical lasers were introduced more than 30 years ago,their use and popularity in nasal and sinus disease have been limited. Even so, there are many practitioners who find the laser a valuable surgical tool for nasal and sinus disease, either alone or in combination with other treatment modalities. Those who do not use lasers probably do not because of a lack of skill, knowledge,or understanding of the role and availability of the technology. This article reviews the history and current role of lasers in nasal and sinus surgery.

OBJECTIVE: Forty-five cases of advanced esophageal carcinoma were treated with Nd:YAG laser, to relieve dysphagia.
METHODS: There were 36 males (80%) and nine female (20%) patients. The mean age of the patients was 55.87 years. Thirty-nine patients (86.6%) were found to have squamous cell carcinoma. Middle third growths were found to be most common (66.6%), followed by lower third (20%) and upper third (13.3%) tumours. The mean dysphagia grade at presentation was 3.33 with all 45 patients (100%) having dysphagia.

We analyze the accuracy of a laser keratopographer in the evaluation of corneal topography for non-smooth corneal surfaces and when some noise is introduced into measured data.
