BACKGROUND: Ectopia lentis refers to dislocation or subluxation of the crystalline lens. Fibrillin-1, encoded by FBN1, is an important microfibrillar structural component that is specifically required for the suspensory ligament of the lens. FBN1 mutations may cause abnormal structure of microfibrils and has been associated with a broad spectrum of clinical phenotypes. In this study, we characterised a Chinese dominant family with late-onset isolated ectopia lentis caused by a novel missense FBN1 mutation.

Traumatic subconjunctival crystalline lens is a rare phenomena; we report a case of ocular trauma by the tail of a cow. A 60-year-old female presented with history of trauma to her left eye by the tail of a cow, she had severe headache, redness and pain in her left eye. She was admitted and the crystalline lens was found in the subconjunctival space and was removed surgically.

A 5-year-old girl had hypotony, myopia, and anterior displacement of the lens-iris diaphragm following routine strabismus surgery. This constellation of findings suggests that surgical manipulation of the intact sclera produced a limited effusion involving the supraciliary space. Following cycloplegia, these findings resolved over several weeks, suggesting that this rare complications is self-limited and associated with a good prognosis for recovery.

Various anterior segment problems can be approached through the pars plana and treated with instrumentation that has been developed for vitreous surgery. Two cases of aphakic bullous keratopathy due to vitreous touch and three cases of subluxated lenses were successfully treated. We describe a technique that uses a 23-gauge transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy with perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) and phacoemulsification to manage a dropped nucleus. The PFCL is injected into the vitreous space until the dislocated lens reaches the iris plane and is then removed using phacoemulsification in the anterior chamber. BACKGROUND: To report the indications and clinical outcomes of all capsular tension ring (CTR) implantations in a large series of consecutive cataract surgeries during a five year interval in a university eye hospital.
